Cant restore please help!

I have an iphone 3g that i jailbroke and am looking to restore it back to normal without the jailbreak. Its jailbroken with the 4.0.2 firmware and used redsnow and my modem firmware is 05.13.04

The phone is just running to slow and i want to start all over like new but the phone wont restore in itunes it says the server is busy or something ive tried to find options and instruction and how to get around this but cant figure it out can anyone help me with some steps or something?

3G iPhones can be restored to any 3.x version without issues and without SHSH blobs. In addition your baseband (5.13.04) is unlockable with Ultrasn0w. Various tutorials on MMI and iClarified.Com exist depending upon what method you want to use and Mac/PC. Be sure to verify your method does NOT upgrade the BB or your unlock will go away. If you get an error at the very end, just use Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery mode.

Did you happen to use tiny umbrella before or edit your host file to downgrade or restore your phone?

i havent used tiny umbrella or edit the host... pretty much just did a simple redsnow jailbreak and didnt need to unlock as i have att.

I also have trouble getting the actual ispw's downloaded they always download to a zip and i can not get them to turn into an actual file the will work as an ispw

Why can't you rename .zip to .ipsw ?

Well if you don't need to unlock, why not upgrade to 4.2.1? It's improved performance over 4.0.x. Does iTunes still error out when you hit upgrade instead of restore?

yeah i have been trying to just update with itunes or restore with itunes and it does error everytime

Have you tried on a different computer? Sometimes that is the best method.

An error like that sounds like your hosts files are messed up. Does internet explorer work fine on your computer (just ruling a hunch out)

yeah my explorer works fine and i am in the middle of trying to just restore on another computer and it seems to be working right now but we will see... not sure how i get it to work on the actual computer i want it on... thanks everyone for all the suggestions so far!
