Problem PLEASE HELP

Hi,
i just got iphone 4G i am new in iphone so i asked my friend to jailbreak my phone as he has been using for a very long time. which he did.

but he didn't activate the device with a sim card before he jail broke it.
he took the phone out from the box brand you and he used a tool to jail break.
now the phone everything is active and working perfectly except that when i put a sim card it shows one bar and when i go to settings it says network not available.

How can i activate the phone to make the network works? without restoring iphone as it will download the new OS while no jailbreaks are out for it yet...

Ok we need a little more info first. Is the sim for the phone an official carrier sim for the Iphone? What firmware version is the phone running? Go to settings / general / about to see it.

But try going to settings and re setting network setting to see if that helps it out.
