Need opinions
I have a new iphone 4 that I got yesterday and I got lucky cause it has the 4.0.1 firmware on it. (Only thing is that there is no shsh files saved, I even tried to save shsh for 4.2.1 but tinyumbrella won't do it.) Anyways I want to Jailbreak and unlock it but want to try and preserve the baseband, it's at now 01.59.00. Should I upgrade to the new firmware 4.2.1 or just stay at 4.0.1 and JB with jailbreakme or limerain?
My question is what is is the best thing to do? Stay where I'm at on 4.0.1 or upgrade to newer firmware, if I decide to upgrade to new firmware how would I do so without updating the baseband? I know there is redsnow or pwnage tools but after researching the web I'm confused on how to or can't decide what one to use?

I would say stay at 4.0.1 because 4.2.1 is tethered and well untethered is just better.
use jailbreakme.Last edited by Stray; 12-31-2010 at 03:19 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Yes, stay at 4.0.1, jailbreak and have cydia save your shsh for 4.2.1. Only thing is that if you need to restore, you will only be able to go to 4.2.1 as you won't be able to go back to 4.0.1

redsnow doesnt preserve baseband. Pwnage tool is the way to go for that.
