Deciding to restore 3GS. Just confirm if this is the right decision

**** DUDE THANK GOD SOMEONE TO HELP ME IS ONLINE!!!!!!

i wasnt a 100% about 4.1 update so i decided to restore to 4.0.1 to check the battery problem and if it was fixed, i might stick with update. ANYWAYS!!!!! I RESTORED (SHIFT RESTORE) AND FOLLWED ALL STEPS AS STATED IN MY FIRST POST TO RESTORE TO 4.0.1 and after restore, now my fone is stuck at connect to itunes to unlock sim. i dont have an offficial sim what to do>>>????


i thought that springboard would show up and i will jailbreak and then unlock through cydia but the springboard is locked!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW!!!!!!!??????????

Try using Limera1n to hactivate and jailbreak your 4.0.1.

that means you've gotta activate/hacktivate it. since I'm not an unlocker (got mine factory unlocked when I got it) I'm not too familiar with hacktivating and all that. but the stuff I have read, going off very vague memory, I think redsnow might hacktivate? and there's something and SAM to save battery life? Try googling all this stuff, a good place to start would be 4.0.1 hacktivate. sorry I couldn't be of more help

Thanks but SAM is installed through cydia (and i cant even open springboard) and its also for fw 4.1/4.2 for using unofficial sims

You can also restore to an activated custom firmware of 4.0 from Pwnage tools 3.1.5. You still need to use redsn0w to put you into dfu mode then restore to CFW of 4.0 ( there is not much diff between 4.0, 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 )

EDIT: I used limera1in and now i can use the springboard but the sim doesnt work now. I cant make calls/messages. I am guessing i need to install ultrasnow from cydia right? but i thought limeara1in jailbreaked AS WELL AS UNLOCKED my phone?

Now install ultrasn0w through cydia and you'll be unlocked and good to go.

and btw, ever since i used limera1n to jailbreak/activate youtube app doesnt work
