Hello,
First of all let me stipulate that I'm NOT a drive by poster (A single post asking for help), and will hopefully be able to help others along the way.

That being said, I have a question. I have a new-bootrom 3Gs, that's currently jailbroken on iOs 3.1.2, and unlocked on 05.11.07 without issue.

However, I would like to AT LEAST get to 3.1.3, but would prefer to get to iOs 4.x. There are a few apps I can't currently run. I got the phone used and pre-jailbroken/unlocked. The only SHSH blobs that were saved to cydia were 4.1. I also saved them locally with TU.

I have scoured the web and forums enough to blind a normal person and have come up with a hodge-podge of different possibilities, but would REALLY appreciate a single(ish) answer from the gurus here. I'm *somewhat* educated in the jailbreak scene, so I should be able to understand suggestions/instructions fairly easy.

Create a custom firmware of 4.1 from Snowbreeze 2.1 , use redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to put you into DFU mode and then run itunes : shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.1.
Make sure you don't let Snowbreeze hactivate your iphone.
You will need the official sim to activate.
Unlock with Ultrasn0w from Cydia.

Ok. Cool. Thanks for the reply! Will an old GoPhone SIM work? All I have (active, anyway) right now is my T-Mo SIM. I do, however, have a few old GoPhone SIM'S from my roommates pre-pay days.

As long as you do not restore to stock firmware of 4.1 or higher, your baseband is still unlockable.

When you run redsn0w , you browse to stock 4.1 firmware but when you restore through itunes you restore to custom firmware of 4.1.
Make sure you have itunes atleast 9.2 or higher.

One more question RE: the custom firmware. I'm assuming when you restore with a custom firmware, iTunes doesn't attempt to "verify the restore with Apple"? And can I use a pre-fab image someone else made? I'm on Widerz 7, and although I have an OSX VMWare image, pwnagetool has a few issues running within said virtual machine.

EDIT. Scratch the last part of that question. I just saw you said to use Snowbreeze and not Pwnagetool.

And before you do anything, download tiny umbrella, plug iphone in and click save shsh. You can only proceed to restore to custom fw of 4.1 only if you see 4.1 shsh blob in Tiny Umbrella and also doing this way, TU will have your ECID and Shsh saved on your computer.

Understood. I've got 'em saved locally and on the server with TU 4.21.02
