Question about restoring from jailbreak
Ok, I am having some issues that are unrelated to my ipod touch being jailbroken and I am debating on taking it to get looked at. So here's what i am wondering:
1) If I do a normal restore, will it erase all traces of my ipod touch being jailbroken? Also, if I don't need to do a normal restore, what kind of restore do i need to do then?
2) If I restore and take it to the apple store and get a new ipod touch, do I need to re-jailbreak the new iPod touch from scratch or could I restore from the backup that I made when i jailbroke the iPod that I currently have.
My SHSH blobs are backed up in Cydia and TinyUmbrella (tho I will run another backup in tiny umbrella just for sanity)
I am using iOS 4.1

Yes just restore it and you will be fine to take it back. You will need to jailbreak a new one from scratch.

ok, since I have my shsh blobs backed up. I would restore the new iPod touch (if they give me one) from backup and I can re-jailbreak with no problem, right??
Another thing that I noticed about my blobs, I have 2 sets. one says:
3162606574990-ipt-3g-4.1.shsh and the other says 3162606574990-ipt-3g-4.2b3.shsh
why are there two different ones? I never updated my ipod to 4.2Last edited by HitokiriKenRyu; 12-28-2010 at 08:37 PM. Reason: Additional question

No, your shsh blobs is for your present ipod touch, a replacement ipod touch will not work on your old blobs.

It is possible your ipod will be at 4.2.1
Why do you want a replacement.Last edited by iYeow; 12-28-2010 at 09:08 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

No if you get a new ipod you will NOT be able to downgrade to an earlier firmware. The shsh you saved from your old ipod will only work with the device it was saved from.
If you get a new ipod it will most likely have 4.2.1 on it, you connect it to your itunes and sync it as new DO NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP. Then you can use greenpoison to jb it again.

Man you need to understand some basics about jailbreaking. When you ll get your replacement device, that would be completely new to cydia. Cydia or tiny umbrella ll not show blobs for this new device. Instead the device for which you ll get replacement ll have saved shsh blobs. Any one who ll get that device ll have these blobs saved for "free".
When you get your new device, you can restore from 4.1 backup. It's not a downgrade to 4.1. All your jailbreak traces ll be recognized as others by iTunes. When you ll jailbreak your new device, all those jailbreak files ll be of use to you, e.g. Preferences. Hope it clears some dust!
