iPhone 4 stuck on 01.59.00?

Obviously I'm not complaining about this right now but it just seems odd that my iPhone 4 seemingly wont take on any new Baseband despite me not trying to preserve it.

I've updated to both 4.1 and 4.2.1 now directly through iTunes and used redsn0w to jailbreak (currently tethered) and yet the baseband has remained at 01.59.

Is there any explanation on how this may happen without me using any tools to revert it or preserve it and could this causee problems in future?

Uninstall tiny umbrellla will allow you to update your baseband if you are restoring to 4.2.1
