New to iPhone/jailbreak

Hi, I just got my iPhone 3G. I was looking around for ways to be able to record video with it, and I think I need to be jailbroken to be able to. Can someone help me out and give me a suggestion on what to do? I don't exactly understand it all and I've been reading. My iPhone is updated to 4.1 (8B117)

You can jailbreak it with Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 and just check install Cydia.

By any chance do you know if I'll be able to receive bigger video files thru txt also? Found out today that apparently I can only receive a certain file size.

I'm on the Please wait while your device is being processed. Uploading ramdisk and it seems to be stuck. Left it on for awhile and it's stuck on 5 bars in. Any idea why?

Did you browse stock 4.1 and try running in XP compatibility mode.
