Default Trouble with iphone 4 Restore

I've had the Greenpoison jailbreak for a while, but decided to restore my iphone (bad idea). I was up pretty late last night so I just left it on the whole night. Now my iphone won't turn on. When I hold the home and sleep button for 20-25 seconds, release the power button for 5, all I get is the apple logo. Decided to plug into iTunes, my iphone won't show up, until I "hold the home and sleep button for 20-25 seconds, release the power button for 5"; I get the iTunes sign & tells me to restore. So I hit the restore button -> Extracting software... then "Verifying iphone restore with Apple... This is what I get "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)." I download iphone 4 firmware, hit "shift" + "restore", but get the same message.

I feel like I'm running out of options. Please help.

Looks like a typical 1015 issue. Of course, all you were doing was restoring, but we need more info. Are you trying to restore back to whatever firmware you were on? Also, what firmware was that? When I get confronted by these types of problems, I use RecBoot. It's light and free and easy to use. It should work. Hope this helps!

You can get that error if you tried to restore to a firmware that you don't have SHSH for. You might also have the SHSH stored, but you haven't changed your hosts file so its trying unsuccessfully to get it from apple instead of cydia. If you are sure you have both, plug it in to your computer and put it into DFU mode, the screen will go and stay completely black, but itunes will recognize it as in restore mode and restore using the saved firmware version you have on your desktop (shift+restore)

Error 3194 means it cannot verify your shsh blob. You may not have the 4.0 or 4.1 shsh blob. However, you should have 4.2.1 shsh blob. Make sure your hosts file is pointing to Apple and if you have TU , go to advanced and uncheck the box : set hosts file to cydia. If you do have shsh blob and have stored your blob locally, start tss server will allow you to verify your 4.0 or 4.1 shsh blob when restoring thru itunes.

    Thanks for the responses everyone.

@salander85 - Tried using RecBoot, but it didn't work for me. A pop-up from Microsof.NET Framework showed and said "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately"; so i clicked continue and "Exit Recovery Mode". My iphone is in the same state.

@ risestar & iYeow - I'm such a newbie that I didn't know what a SHSH is, so I didn't save my SHSH. Just looked it up and found that it’s some type of unique signature.

@ iYeow - Tried installing Tiny Umbrella, but got this message: "No JVM could be found on your system. Please define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 32-bit JDK or JRE or download a JRE from www.java.com.". So went to the java site, tried to install, but got "error 1327. invalid drive. G". So Tiny Umbrella is a no go for me. How do I make sure that my hosts file is pointing at Apple? This may sound like a stupid question, but what are hosts files? I just got my iphone recently, so I'm pretty new to these terms; plus I’m not tech savvy. Chances are I didn't save my SHSH, since I don't really know what that is.

Make sure you have atleast Itunes 9.2
Run Notepad as Admin , open up hosts file and add this line :
    C windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
save it and reboots your pc
Now do the Shift + Restore

If then above method fails, then you don't have 4.1 shsh blob and you may have only 4.2.1 shsh blob.

@ iYeow - My iTunes is up to date. Added "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" to the hosts file & hit shift + restore, chose the firmware from IPhone Firmware Download Links; - ModMyi - Wiki but get the same error from iTunes (3194). I tried both 4.0 & 4.0.1

If yo have not stored your SHSH, then you cannot restore to any firmware other than 4.2.1, which is the current version that apple is signing. Unfortunately, with your device, there is only a tethered jailbreak currently available, but sounds like there might be an untethered one in the near future. There is also no unlock for 4.2.1 and you might need to wait a month or more before that comes out. If your phone is no longer working normally, then you have little choice but to go to 4.2.1 and you will need to connect your iphone to your computer and re-run redsnow anytime you restart your phone until an untethered version of the jailbreak comes out

@ risestar, iYeow & salander85 - Thanks for all the help. Finally restored my iphone back to firmware. I'll keep it in this state until the untethered jailbreaks comes in. Kinda sucks that this happened to my phone on Christmas Day; but I'm really happy that you guys took the time to help. Thanks again & Happy Holidays!!
