    can i use the latest redsn0w to jailbreak my 3g on 4.1? and also change my root partition size

    Yes, you can use redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to jailbreak 4.1 for 3g, don't update to ipad BB if you don't need it.

    Ipad baseband is only for those who has BB of 05.14 or 05.15 and needed an unlock. However, having an unlock this way has a price to pay.
    You will not be able to restore to any stock firmware of 4.2.1 or higher.
    You may lose your GPS functionality.
