Default iPhone 2g 3.1.3 NO SIM can't get past it...help

I have my OLD iPhone 2g that I wanted to use just as an iPod.

I have no good SIM to use in it (only iPhone 4's now).

I have tried Redsn0w, Blackra1n, they don't seem to do their thing ...the 2g just goes to a brite black screen. I have to reboot it and it's back to the no sim screen.

If I put an OLD deactivated SIM in it iTunes wants to activate the iPhone....which I don't want to do.

I also tried to restore from iTunes with a custom firmware already hacktivated etc...but iTunes will not load it just hangs on preparing iPhone...

Is there anyway to get past this?

    Thanks for any help

Thanks iYeow ....I tried that guide first..... the Redsn0w does not show "Unlock" checkbox on the version downloaded from the link on that guide and I also tried several other versions.

But I know sometimes I can be a idiot so I will go through it carefully one more time.

    Thank you!

Ok what worked was tracking down Redsn0w 0.9.2 (the link on that page is 0.9.4) Once I had the correct version I got the unlock box and all went smooth.

Thank you very much, I guess now that it is unlocked I could maybe put a sim out of a Prepaid Go-Phone if I ever wanted to use it as a phone? or am I mistaken?
