Default Upgrade iPhone 3GS to iOS 4?

    Hi all,

I read almost every how-to but am still confused! I have an iPhone 3GS, 3.1.3. FW 05.12.01. It is locked so I jailbroke/ unlocked it (don't remember the software I used...). Now I want to upgrade to iOS4 but obviously keep the unlock! Is there a way?

    Thanks,
    Mamoa

I am in the same situation as mamoa. I do not have shsh's saved on Cydia cuz I just got the phone. Is there a way to upgrade to at least 4.0 and keep the unlock? Can I just use pwnage and create a custom firmware for 4.0 or 4.1 and update without saved shsh's? There is so much information out there right now, it is hard to process and find the right applicable info.

No, don't restore yet or you will be sorry.
Download tiny umbrella, plug your iphone in and click save shsh first.
If you have only 4.2.1, then you can only restore to stock or custom firmware of 4.2.1 and nothing else.

And if you have the new bootrom, you will be stuck at apple logo. You will be joining these members here trying to get back to working iphone for days.

You should not do any restore to custom firmware , wait for a better jailbreak. This Pwnage tools 4.1.3 is only a half jailbroken tool. It does not install Cydia and you will have battery drain.
The new jailbreak should be out before christmas.
