I'm on firmware 4.0.2 and tried to restore in iTunes but it wouldn't let me, now I'm stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and don't want to update to 4.2.1. I tried to save my SHSH in tinyumbrella but it's not saving it because it's in recovery mode. I'm on baseband 1.59.00 and would like to keep my unlock. Is there a way to get my SHSH or do I just have to update?
That is why you guys should use tiny umbrella when your iphone is working and save your ECID and shsh blobs. Now you have to find out your ECID and manually key in into tiny umbrella.
Here is the instructions
If you have 4.1 shsh blob, then highlight the device and start tss server, only then you can shift + restore to stock firmware of 4.1.
Error 1004 will pop up, use Exit recovery from the feature of Tiny Umbrella.
Your baseband will be preserve this way for iphone 4, jsilbreak it with Limera1n and unlock with Ultrasn0w again.
You might want to ssh into your iphone and install ultrasn0w version 1.1.1 seems to work better than version 1.2 which is the default version.

I found my ECID and manually entered into tinyumbrella but it says the only SHSH I have saved is 4.2.1. Is there a way to upgrade to 4.2.1 and preserve my baseband to use ultrasnow?
I've been trying to do that but it just goes right back to the connect to iTunes screen. It doesn't even seem to reboot or anything. Any other ideas or should I just upgrade to 4.2.1? It's pretty stuck right now.
Are you with the official carrier ? If you are then go ahead and do it. If you need unlock, then just put this iphone away in your drawer, there is going to be a release in the next couple of days. Who knows, there might be a Pwnage tools for iphone 4 to preserve baseband. It is up to you.
I mean before Christmas.

I'm with At&t and this is a spare IP4 so I'm in no rush, just looking to unlock and sell. If the release is coming then I'll just wait. But just to clarify do NOT upgrade, correct? Thanks for the quick replies.
