My iPhone 2G is running iOS 3.0. I bought it unlocked and jailbroken by the seller and it included Cydia and Icy. When I first got it I just put in my AT&T SIM and Voila! it has worked great ever since.
The seller warned that upgrading the iOS would clobber the unlock/jailbreak - so I've left it as is for the past year.
I'm trying to install the Cydia app BTstack keyboard. Under Cydia Store I can see BTstack keyboard $5 and select it. I get an error box: "Note: Cannot Locate Package"
The info below the error msg suggests 3 ideas to fix this. First idea is to "install more sources". I tried that but get the same error msg as above.
Second idea: Go to Changes and hit Refresh. If I do that it flashes a few brief errors at the top (database something) but then goes on FOREVER (I quit at 15 mins) saying Downloading ... but never completes.
Third idea: that I may need to be more up-to-date with Apple firmware. My PC's iTunes (v9) Sync interface is offering me 3.1.3 but out of fear of messing up I'm still back at 3.0.
Is there a simple fix for this problem or do I have to do major upgrade of either Cydia or iOS or ???
Oh, on the bottom of Cydia home screen it says ...
"iPhone 2G, iOS 3.0, Cydia 1.0.3044-65"
You need to restore to 3.1.3 again and jailbreak with Redsn0w.
Read this guide , it will hactivate, jailbreak and unlock for you in a single process.
If you want the new Cydia, ssh into your iphone and put the Cydia version 3366 in the location of root/private/var/root/media/Cydia/autoinstall folder and reboots your iphone.

The 2G guide looks pretty straight forward. Thanks. Two Qs:
Does it matter that I'm not sure how the previous owner jailbroke this in the first place .. Regardless I can just plow ahead with Redsn0w following the guide?
Second, I'm leaving in 1 1/2 days on vacation for a couple weeks and really need my phone to work on the trip. How risky is this whole Redsn0w process .. esp. for a newbie? It'd be nice to use the bluetooth keyboard on the road.
No risk at all. Just follow the guide , when you run redsn0w 0.9.4, check only the box install cydia and unlock. You will be asked to browse BL 3.9 and BL 4.6 which is to unlock your iphone. You don't use ultrasn0w for 2g, just because the baseband is entirely different from 3g and 3gs.
Okay. I followed the guide: guides/how-jailbreak-unlock-3-1-3-iphone-2g-windows-os-x/ to upgrade my 2G phone from ios 3.0 to the current 3.1.3
Selected Cydia and Unlock. Worked like a charm! Thanks!
Now, do I need to update Cydia somehow? The version 3366 was mentioned in earlier post.
When I first opened Cydia it said something about loading or organizing library and closing. That seemed to happen. It closed and went back to phone desktop.
I opened Cydia again and saw the familiar Cydia screen. It then said Downloading Packages and ran a while but then hit an error.
I reopened Cydia. Let it do Loading Data several minutes then it offered 3 choices, first 2 of which were:
- complete upgrade
- upgrade essentials
I hit complete upgrade. Saw lots of stuff on screen, The progress bar went many steps ends with something like reloading package, reloading release.
Pop up error msgs: http://ispaziorepository.com – unreachable – ok
cache failure – ok – ok
Error: Refreshing Data
- Failed to fetch http://ispaziorepository.com/./Release.jpg
- Host Unreachable etc.
Reloading Data – wheel spins many minutes
Finally: Close Cydia (restart) and now I have a clean Cydia home page.
The small text at bottom of the page shows:
iPhone 2G, iOS 3.1.3, Cydia 1.0.3201-71
So I assume then that I'm running 3201 and not 3366. Is the newer version recommended or am I fine with the older? How do I upgrade?
