    Default Untethered JB for 4.2.1

I jailbroke my phone earlier today and all was fine; I then decided to reboot my phone and when the phone restarted to my horror all the default icons from the home screen were missing as well as the four dock icons(phone, mail, Safari and ipod). Any ideas what could cause this?

Anyhow, I managed to restore my phone but I was upgraded to 4.2.1

Does anyone in the know have an idea if we will get a JB for 4.2.1 anytime soon?

    Thanks.

You can jailbreak your 3gs at 4.2.1 with redsn0w 0.9.6b6 but it will be a tethered jailbreak if you have the new bootrom.

Yeah I have the new bootrom so I think I'm going to hang fire till an untethered gets released.

    Maybe by xmas for untethered
    That would be great ;-)

If I was to jailbreak with a tethered JB, and then an untethered is released would I have to unjailbreak it then jailbreak with the untethered JB?

P.s any idea what could cause my home screen/dock icons to disappear?

I saw the title of this under "Latest Post" for the JB General forum... I got really excited and crapped a little. Now I'm just stuck at work with soiled scrubs.

It's cool, brudda! I just needed an excuse to make a potty joke. I figured a true announcement would have been on the main news page.

I've only been on these forums for a few weeks now. How do big announcements like that get made? News on the main page? Big red banner on top? Explosions?

Not been here long myself but yeah, new jailbreaks are announced on the main news page. Won't be long now!

If I was to jailbreak with a tethered JB, and then an untethered is released would I have to unjailbreak it then jailbreak with the untethered JB?

    Anybody?

To answer your question, yes you would have to restore and jailbreak again with the new untethered jailbreak.

Also, sometimes the sync can go wrong. Had that happen to a client's iPhone 3G once, the sync just went weird so I had to restore it.

why dont you tether jailbreak. just be sure not to install anything from cydia unless your at home by your computer & keep some charge in your battery. better than going stock

I am tethered jailbroken right now. Not as bad as people make it seem at all. Once set up with everything you want from cydia you hardly ever have to reboot.

Waiting wouldn't be too bad if you can. Saves you the trouble of redoing it. To each his own

You're only gone for like an hour out of the day haha, that doesn't really count.

When I am home thats pretty accurate, except when I sleep

For the next three weeks though have to scale back a bit. 150-200 posts a day down to more like 50 a day.

I chose to update. I have SHSH back to 4.0 so can go back any time I want. I just have a real issue, when I see an update I am compelled to do it. I think I need to seek professional help

iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4 Using RedSn0w (Windows) [4.2.1]

Thats a iPhone 4 tutorial but the steps are pretty much the same, just use the 3GS firmware instead.

Lol wow, 50 posts a day. I think that's what I average normally.

The thing with re-setting up my phone after an update is so tiring for me because 1) I'm super specific about my apps placement/organization and 2) I have so many tweaks and Cydia stuff installed that I have to do it all over again. I would just Pkgbackup but being the paranoid person I am, I just start from scratch and not do the whole carry over my old jb into this new jb thing. I guess we are equally weird in our own ways
