Default 3GS stuck at apple logo - no solution

Like others my 3GS (old bootrom - week 25) is stuck in the apple boot logo loop and I can't get it out. This happened after I upgraded to 4.2.1 and jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.6b6. Here's what I tried so far in the follow order, I had tiny umbrella 4.21.01 running with TSS server for all steps:
    1. "Just boot tethered" - tried a few times with no luck just got apple logo
    2. Enter pwned dfu mode and restore to stock 4.2.1
    3. Enter pwned dfu mode and restore to custom 4.2.1
    4. Run redsn0w again but install iPad baseband
    5. Disconnect battery for an hour (opened case and moved motherboard out of the way)
    6. pwned dfu mode and restore to stock 4.2.1 - got 10015 error and tried to kick out with tiny umbrella but just kept going back into recovery mode (with itunes logo)
    7. add verbose boot using redsn0w - printed some kind of thread lr error
    8. enter pwned dfw mode restore to custom 4.2.1 - got apple boot logo with spinning pinwheel
    9. redsnow just boot tethered - got pineapple and then rebooted into apple boot logo
    10. add verbose boot - same lr thread error

Is my 3GS completely bricked?? Any ideas?

    Thanks

Put your iphone into recovery mode and restore to stock fw of 4.2.1
Make sure you have itunes 9.2 to 10

By recovery do you mean with the iTunes logo on the screen?

I have the latest version of iTunes 10.1 - is there a reasons why I shouldn't use 10.1?

10.1 is fine. If you want to stock 4.0, use the tss server from Tiny Umbrella to help you verify your 4.0 blob. Restoring to stock fw does not require special dfu, just a normal recovery or dfu mode will do.

I ran RSS server and put phone in regular DFU mode and did a restore with 4.0 firmware - got a 1015 error from itunes and phone was in recovery mode - I used tiny umbrella to exit recovery mode but it still stuck on apple boot logo with spinning pinwheel.

    Any other suggestions?

You never had this problem before you upgrade , right ? Try one more time, if you don't need unlock, restore to stock 4.2.1

I don't need to unlock so I just tried 4.2.1 stock restore from recovery mode with tss server NOT running. Got 1015 error so used tiny umbrella to kick of of recovery - phone rebooted but still in recovery mode.
