I know this is a noobish question, but I've spent hours trying to figure this out myself and am completely lost in the weeds.
I made a stupid mistake yesterday. I took in my 3GS, which was running 3.1.3, to the Apple store to get the vibration/ringer switch fixed. They gave me a new phone. I didn't realize that I wouldn't get the same firmware.
So now I have a 3GS running 4.1 (8B117), modem firmware 05.14.02. I have no SHSH's.
I just want to jailbreak it so I can use a sim card overseas (I travel for work) like with my previous phone.
In the guide on this forum for downgrading a 3GS from 4.1 to 3.1.3, it says that "no SHSH's = this won't work."
So am I dead in the water here, or is there some way of doing this? Thanks in advance.
You wont be able to downgrade without SHSH. The only way for you to unlock is to use redsnow 0.9.6b6 to update your baseband and then unlock. You can read about it here: Dev-Team Blog
