What are my options? Forced upgrade. HELP! ahhhhh

Hi all. Hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I need to return my iPhone 4 to apple for waterfamage repairs, so im forced into upgrading (i think) to hide the limera1n jailbreak I currently have.

I'm running with an IPhone 4
ios 4.1 basement 02.10.04 (8b117)

My question is.. what steps should I take before upgrading? so that I still have the chance to jailbreak & unlock when I receive it back? What are my options?

You don't happen to have your 4.1 SHSHs do you? If not then you'll be forced to 4.2.1 like you said yourself. You can still jailbreak but not unlock. With that current baseband you can't even unlock anyway. The only downside is your jailbreak will be tethered.

I haven't upgraded yet. if I save my shsh's before I upgrade. will I be able to unlock if im on 4.2.1 or 4.3 when I get it back fixed ??

No you can't unlock if you upgrade. You stated already your baseband is 2.10.04, it already can't be unlocked. There's no ETA on when the new unlock will be released either. You can't save your 4.1 SHSHs now if you haven't done it already. Sure you can save SHSHs now but you're only going to be able to get 4.2.1. So if you don't have 4.1 SHSHs you'll have to go up to 4.2.1.
