Double checking before upgrading

Hello, I have an iPhone 3GS on 4.0 that I jailbroke using jailbreakme.com. I want to upgrade to 4.2, but I just want to make sure I got this right.

I downloaded app backup in cydia and backed up all my apps. Next step is to upgrade via iTunes. Then rejailbreak and download app backup again and get all my apps again.

Am I on the right track. Any help is appreciated.

And jailbreakme.com doesn't work yet for 4.2 correct? So I'd have to use limerain or greenpoison? Thanks for the help!

Do you need (or want) an unlock ?? If yes, a custom firmware is required.

None of those will work for 4.2.1 use the new redsn0w for jbing 4.2.1. ps it is tethered and if you need an unlock using the ipad baseband will void warranty
