3G with 3.1.2

Is there a tutorial or someone with a spare few minutes to help a girl out! I have a 3G with 3.1.2 (7D11) firmware 05.11.07. I want to keep everything the same I just want a fresh install/restore.

I have avoided it because I am nervous that I will make it unlockable and render my calling useless.

What files will I need and is it pretty simple to do? Any advice for things to avoid or be careful of?

If I go and reset to factory settings is that good enough or do I need to do a full restore to 3.1.2 in itunes?

You can use aptbackup or pkgbackup to back up your Cydia stuffs, sync all your Contacts, notes, photos, videos with itunes.
Download your 3.1.2 firmware from this link
Run itunes : Hold shift key + restore (itunes ) and browse to 3.1.2.
Once restored, you can jailbreak it with Redsn0w 0.9.4 again.
Setup as a new iphone
After syncing with Itunes, install pkgbackup from Cydia (if you choose this app)
Do a restore from pkgbackup.

Can I still do it without all the Cydia stuff? I want to start fresh, I am getting some errors in Cydia. Is there much difference between 3.1.2 and 3.1.3? I already have that file and would like to not have to d/l another. My main issue is I need to unlock so if I can restore and start fresh and unlock that is all I need.

Sure, then do use Pkgbackup , just sync with itunes first.
Before you do a restore, you should download tiny umbrella , plug your iphone in and click save shsh.
For speed and performance , you should restore to 3.1.3 instead of 3.1.2.
Use Redsn0w to jailbreak but browse to 3.1.2 ipsw when you are asked.
Remember to setup as a new iphone and you can choose what to sync from itunes.
