Forecast says Can't Jailbreak w/o SHSH blobs

Hey,

So I just bought an iPhone 3GS off e-bay. I have no idea how it was jailbroken (using Freedom, or w/e). I ran Forecast and it's giving me the following information:
Baseband: 5.13.0.4
Bootloader: 6.4
Model: MC135
Jailbreakable?: Only with SHSH blobs
Unlockable: Already unlocked
Thethered?: Depends on Jailbreak (It's not thethered however, I'm able to turn it on/re-start it without any connection to windows or any other program running)

Now, I'm following the following guide to upgrade my FW (Currently Have 4.0.2) to atleast 4.1.. I also ran idetector and it said I was an Old-bootrom.

Preserve baseband/Sn0wbreeze Method (Windows only):

Downloads:
1) Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2
2) stock 4.1 ipsw
3) TinyUmbrella (maybe)
4) iTunes 10 and up

Prerquisites:
1) must be already jailbroken by non-userland jb on current fw
2) this excludes spirit and jailbreakme
3) if device is jb with spirit or jailbreakme, this process cannot be done
4) if SHSHs are saved for 3.1.2 and you're currently jb with spirit or jailbreakme, this can be done
5) follow the above instructions for downgrading the 3GS to use the SHSHs to get to 3.1.2, then jailbreak with Blackra1n before following the below steps

Steps:
1) open Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 and select the stock 4.1 ipsw. Go into expert mode.
2) in General submenu, select desired options such as Multitasking and Wallpaper etc. If you need to hacktivate, select it. If you have an official carrier's SIM, don't select it.
3) add any repos you want, including "repo666.ultrasn0w.com" if it isn't already in there. You can always manually do this in Cydia later if you don't want to do it now.
4) build the custom firmware. It can take some time.
5) follow PwnageTool's timer to set phone into DFU mode. Then open iTunes
6) shift + restore to the custom firmware
7) after restore, it should give you access to your home screen (if you hacktivated).
8) if you didn't hacktivate, you'll be at the emergency call screen. Activate with your SIM in iTunes now to access springboard.
9) unlock with Ultrasn0w if needed.

Now, I'm using Sn0wBreeze 2.1, should that make a difference? Also, the real question is. AM I able to jailbreak this without SHSH blobs? I ran TinyUmbrella and it gave me the following message:

When you use the latest tiny umbrella, with your bootable phone plugged in, click save shsh will let you see what shsh blobs you have.
If you don't have 4.1 blob, then you cannot restore to CFW of 4.1 too.

Note : I always advise buyers to ask the seller if there is any shsh blobs. Example : If the iphone is at fw 4.0.2 and has only 4.2.1 shsh blob, I wouldn't buy it if I need an unlock. You cannot restore to 4.0.2 again if your iphone ever crashes.

Alright, so it finished running and found this:
You have saved your iPhone3GS 4.2.1 (8C148a) SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version.

I did save the file, it's a .shsh file, and another folder containing a .plist file.. Now, This means I can freely update and restore to 4.2.1 over and over if something ever comes up in the future?.

Also, I'm ATT, and I won't be switching any time soon. I don't mind loosing unlock. How can I go about Jailbreaking to 4.2.1, and is there a 100% success rate? (I don't mind doing it again if I mess up, I just don't want to be stuck with a non-jailbroken phone).

Sorry if I don't know the updated terms. I left the scene when I broke my iPhone 3G about 5-6 months ago. =(

Now you have to find out if you have the old or new bootrom from here.
If you have the old bootrom, then you can use redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to jailbreak your 4.2.1 to get untethered jailbreak.

iDetect told me it was Old-Boot rom, and I just confirmed it using your link..

Thanks for all your help. Now I really have only 2 more questions.

First, in cydia it says "this device has a pending tss request". I googled it, but I still don't understand what it means....

And second:

The "warning for 4.2.1 jailbreakers" in cydia states that most jb apps that rely on MobileSubstrate won't work. Is this still the case? If so, then I feel it's useless to JB the phone any further than 4.0.2 for me right now. All I really want to do is customize the look and add SSH and SBSettings.

Don't worry about the pending request, it will go away. You won't have any shsh besides 4.2.1
As to the mobilesubstrate, it should be already updated but not sure as i am still on 4.1 myself.

Alright, thanks alot man. I'll keep it at 4.0.2 for a while, and see how it comes along.. When there's a working unlock for 4.2.1 (Which doesn't require you to update the Baseband) I'll go for that.

One last question I thought is very important:

Lets say Apple comes out with a new FW. Do I need to run TinyUmbrella to get the SHSH, or will it automatically save the SHSH if I run Cydia?

Cydia will automatically save all future shsh blobs for you. But in order to save it locally, you have to click save one more time for it to be downloaded onto your computer.
