Default iPhone 4 freeze on boot after jailbreak 4.2.1

    Hi,

I have an iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 and I restored through iTunes, ran redsn0w, and as the phone was loading after it finished the jailbreaking process, it freezes on the boot logo and then the loading wheel appears for a second then freezes with the phone.

I left it in this state for an hour hoping it would load up but nothing happened. I restarted and it stayed in that mode. I restored the phone and tried jailbreaking again and I can't seem to get it to load.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    -Chris

Try booting tethered with redsnow to see if that helps

When you say that, do you mean check the "Just boot tethered right now" with the install cydia checked? I thought I was already booting tethered since I don't have an AT&T card to activate the phone with and that's how 4.2.1's jailbreak is.

*Uncheck "install cydia" and check "just boot tethered now".
*Point to the 4.2.1 file and click next and follow the DFU instructions.

My power died and I had to do it this way and it worked out fine for me. I had to do this for my ipad bc the power died and it stayed on the apple boot logo.

How would I go about unlocking the phone after? Do I rerun redsn0w after tether booting and only check "install cydia" after?

I'll this a try when I get home.

You cannot unlock your iphone 4 BB at IOS 4.2.1. Only a tether jailbreak.
Each time you respring or reboot, you need to run redsn0w to just tether boot.

I was able to restore the phone through iTunes. I was able to take my brother's AT&T card to activate the phone to see if it was running normal too. Still can't jailbreak/unlock. Thanks for the replies

Ah just saw your post as I posted this one iYeow. That is really unfortunate. Is there anyway to downgrade from 4.2.1 to another firmware that I can unlock? Thanks

Baseband cannot be downgraded but the good news is the Dev team is working a solution to downgrade the BB.
