Jailbreaking iPhone 3G 3.1.3 Help!Hi guys, I was wondering if you could walk me throug
Hi guys,
I was wondering if you could walk me through how to unlock an iPhone 3G running firmware 3.1.3.
The phone has not been activated and it currently on the "connect to iTunes/Emergency call" screen.
I've run f0recast and it has given be a baseband of 05.15.04, Bootloader 6.2, Model: MB
Jailbreakable: YES
Unlockable: NO
Tethered?: NO
I've tried creating a custom IPSW with sn0wBreeze 1.5.2 and I haven't had any success installing it.
I'd really like some guidance on what SHOULD be the correct procedure.
Also, once I jailbreak it, I can then go on to unlock it yes?
Run tiny umbrella , plug your iphone in , click save shsh first from Emergency screen. Get back to me.
Update your itunes to the latest.
Hit restore in itunes to take you back to 4.2.1 because your BB is already the 4.2.1 baseband ( someone if not you has already updated the baseband ).
Tell me what shsh blobs you have .

If you want 4.2.1 , you have to restore to custom fw created by Pwnage tools version 4.1.3.( if you have a Mac)
If you want 4.1, then put your iphone into recovery mode and shift + restore to stock 4.1
Error 1015 pops up , use Exit recovery from the feature of TU.
Jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.6b6, browse to stock 4.1 ipsw and only check the box : install Cydia, install ipad BB
Unlock with Ultrasn0w from Cydia.
Libertad;5641892]Which firmware is more recommended?
I can't jailbreak using 3.1.3?
Yes, you can jailbreak at 3.1.3 with Redsn0w 0.9.4.
Does the firmware upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.1/4.2.1 involve another baseband change? *As many have stated that 4.2.1 requires a BB change to the ipad BB
Your BB cannot be unlocked, so you have to use ipad BB
Would 4.1 be the safer choice of the two?
Both 4.1 and 4.2.1 BB cannot be unlocked, it is all up to you.
Thanks so much.
Another question,
Is the ipad BB upgrade safe? Will it hinder use in the future?
Yes, it will hinder you from future stock fw of 4.2.1 or higher.
But downgrading BB is in progress from Dev Team.
Does it matter if my phone isn't activated and stuck on the emergency call screen? ie. will the jailbreak help move past that?
Yes, the jailbreak will hactivate it but you might face other problems having it hactivated. If you have the valid sim, it is better to use it to get past Emergency screen.
Do you already have the ipad BB. If you don't have the ipad baseband, you should be able to restore to stock 4.2.1. Once you are at stock 4.2.1, run redsn0w 0.9.6b6 , browse to stock 4.2.1 and check ipad bb(if you want unlock) and check Cydia. Finish the process and then install Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock.
I managed to get onto cydia, but once I got on, it told me I had 2 important updates to install and I did. Should I have done these recommended updates?
Thanks
At the moment, I cannot leave it unlocked, if I just leave the handset and it locks, it freezes and I cannot wake it with the sleep button.
Why is this?

What firmware is on your device ? Do you need unlock ?
Why don't you restore to custom firmware of 4.1 , since you have 4.1 shsh blobs.
Build a custom fw from Snowbreeze 2.0.2 or 2.1. ( uncheck activate iphone under expert mode )
Run Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 and browse to stock 4.1 ipsw and check only the : DFU mode only. Once dfu is done.
Open up itunes and shift + restore to cfw of 4.1 .
Leaving your valid sim in there.
You are now jailbroken at 4.1

Ok, I tried the 4.2.1 restore and as you said it failed, so now I'm restoring to stock 4.1. I should be able to kick it out of restore and then proceed to jailbreaking + unlocking yes?
Thanks
The big problem I'm having now is not being able to restore any firmware past 3.1.3 on it, ie. 4.1. and 4.2.1 won't restore on or at least I dont think they do as it enounters the various restore errors. Does this mean they have been restored with the firmware regardless?
Thanks
