iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom from 3.1.3 => 4.2.1

Hi guys,

I've got an iPhone 3GS old bootrom, unlocked on 05.12.01 baseband,and jailbroken on its 3.1.3 firmware. I know my firmware is really outdated, so I want to update it to 4.2.1, but preserve my 05.12.01 baseband. I've got no problems with activation, I kept the original sim card, but I just need to preserve the baseband. I really do not want to update to 06.15.00 because I've still got 5 months of warranty left.

I also want some tips on how to do a clean install on my iPhone. People say it is never good to update to stock firmware from a jailbroken iPhone. I want to know how to wipe this jailbroken 3.1.3 clean and put on 4.1.2 whilst preserving the baseband.

You would need to make a custom 4.2.1 with pwnage tool to preserve the baseband. Do you have access to a Mac?

. No, I don't have access to a Mac at the moment I'm afraid. Could you please help me out with the steps? I just want to do a clean install and preserve baseband. Jailbreaking and the unlocking process afterwards should be alright. I'm on the old bootrom so redsn0w should be alright I think.

Edit: I just found a custom 4.2.1 ipsw from megaupload which was made with pwnagetool. What should I do?

Here is what you need to do:
Download a regular 4.2.1 firmware as well (top of page under downloads)
Get redsnow 0.9.6b6 from here: Dev-Team Blog
Open redsnow and browse for the regular 4.2.1 firmware. Only select the option to enter pwned dfu.
Once in pwned dfu open itunes and shift-click restore to the custom firmware you downloaded.
Once the restore is finished use your official sim to activate
Then use redsnow again browsing for the regular 4.2.1 firmware this time just choose to install cydia
Thats it

Make sure when rednsow asks if you have the newer fixed model to say no since you have old bootrom.

No prob, make sure you use the custom one I sent you unless you are 100% the one from megaupload doesnt have the ipad baseband in it. You dont want a custom firmware that has that.

I am on 4.0 and BB 5.11.07 and need to upgrade to 4.2.1 keeping my baseband (everything else exactly same as with Cyrus the Great)

I made it with pwnage tool. No extras. Just the basics to get you to 4.2.1 with minimum fuss. To install it you have to enter pwned dfu first with redsnow then shift restore to the custom firmware in iTunes.

Edit: I've been reading up on this here tutorial (http://iclarified.com/entry/comments...12945&laid=330) would updating to 4.2.1 using this method have updated my baseband at all?

Hey guys I have an iPhone 3Gs with old bootrom on 4.0.2 and it's unlocked using Ultrasnow. I'd like to upgrade to 4.2.1 and keep the baseband the same so I can run Ultrasnow again and unlock the phone. Just wondering what the best way to do this is? Is it possible to do this with the pwnage Tool or is it Redsnow?
