iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom from 3.1.3 => 4.2.1

You don't have to worry as you can always downgrade back with your saved shsh.
Downside is this 3GS cfw of 4.2.1 does not install cydia, so you need run redsnow to install cydia.
I have tried this method before but I was using redsnow 0.9.6 b6 without hactivation but I experience battery drain within
a day.
It might be due the combination of PT and redsnow or the version of redsnow.
What i am trying to say is if you experience battery issue using this method & not happy with this issue , you can always restore to cfw of 4.1

Hey guys any word on if an iphone 3G flashed to an iPad modem firmware can be downgraded or upgraded in the future? Got the 3GS working just waiting to see if the 3G should be unlocked or left as is for now.

If you mean can the modem firmware be downgraded then no, not yet. Unless you have 5.8 bootloader of course.

I could update to a custom 4.2.1... Then attack it with redsnow for cydia..

Then to avoid the battery issue once shsh are saved I could restore to a custom 4.1?

In that case could I have a cfw 4.1 too?

We cannot give custom firmware anymore. Against forum policy. Just google for one. Also unless you have 4.1 shsh a custom 4.1 isn't going to do you any good.
