I believe your definition of SHSH is not correct.

I'm not a good or knowledgable hacker (and I can't spell), I just know how to follow directions.

But I believe the definition of SHSH is broader.

I've used SHSH to tunnel in to my phone over the wifi... so it can't be just to save certain codes...

SHSHs don't have anything to do with accessing your phone's raw files. Like x98car said, it is SSH that you're referring to.

Hi Car, I have one quick question of iphone 4 4.2.1 locked mobile.
now the Iphone 4 is locked to three and with latest firmware 4.2.1 with bb 3.10.01. I need to jailbreak this iphone without affecting the locked one(means after I jailbreak the phone should work with the locket network). Will this be possible, if so what and how can I do_

Just use greenpoison rc6.1 to jailbreak it. It wont affect the carrier it is locked to.

It might be an idea to point out that it's alphabetical so Black* appear fist even though they relate to older FW and possibly worth mentioning what the max FW versions of each JB is.

Thanks for the suggestions, made two changes. I have already stated next to each jailbreak what firmware they are for except for ones like redsnow and pwnage tool since they are always evolving and adding new firmwares and dropping others. Would take a whole other thread to document which versions went with which firmware lol. This is just a introductory to jailbreaking, there are many threads with the how to's for each one

Thanks, I have been trying to use GreepoisOn 6.1 for my iphone 4 which has 4.2.1. when ever I have click on click JAILBREAK buitton after doing the process of prepare jail break( done the process of holding power and home button as suggested ), it's not processing furhter and suddenly itunes will be opened asking iphone is in restore mode. After I click on shift and restore button after few minutes it gives error message " Iphone could not be restored, unerror occured (3194)". i tried many times and getting the same issues. Is that becasue of no proper restore firmware 4.2.1? can you suggest me?

I was trying to jailbreak using greenpoison rc6.1 but I dont know what happening with the GP jailbreak. The things which happened while doing is as below.
1. Opened Greenpoison
2. Clicked on Prepare Jailbreak button
3. Then followed with home and power button as per the tutorial
4.After some time Jailbreak button was enabled and I clicked that button
5. From then no process atall (I mean it was not processing any further nor my iphone was showing anyting on the screen.
6. After some times Itunes opened automatically with message "Iphone has deteceted and prompted me to restore.
7. I then used shift + restore button and selected relevant 4.2.1 restore ipsw , it was processing after some time again I got error message " iphone could not restore unknow error occured (3194)

I dont understand what exactly its happening and what I need to do inorder to do complete jailbreak without any issues of the above said points

You shouldnt be restoring after that. You should just try greenpoison again. When going into DFU keep holding the home button after the jailbreak button appears. Do not let go of the home button until you see scrolling text on the iphone screen.

Many thanks for your suggestions, I tried as per the same and ow it worked out, I am able to jailbreak using green poisOn. Onceagain thanks.

But one more question, my brother has iphone 4 which is already locked to AT & T and it is saved is 4.1 and 4.2.1. Currently iphone 4 is in 4.1 state and want to upgrade to 4.2.1, when trying to upgrade to 4.2.1 by doing restore to 4.21 ipsw, its always giving error message like 3.14 and some times. 1002 and some times different. Can you send me the link where I can download custom restore firmware for 4.2.1?

Is it a custom restore file? You need to put it into DFU Mode.

Plug your device into the computer.

Hold the Power and Home buttons for ten seconds

Without releasing the home button, release the power button and continue holding the home button for ten more seconds.

Then you can restore.

I have iphone 4 4.2.1 restore file i.e, iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw,
but I need custom restore file for iphone 4 4.2.1 i.e. I need iPhone3_1_4.2.1_8C148_Custom_Restore.ipsw where I am unbale to download in any of the google websites, couple of websites mentioned in 2 parts but need to have one single file..

We cannot provide custom firmware here. You can make your own with pwnage tool or snowbreeze. You will need 4.2.1 SHSH to restore to 4.2.1 though.

You'll also need to make custom bundles to be pwned in both programs if using a legacy program.

What is wrong with my ipod touch 3g 32GB ???
after an update of tweaks and respring on cydia the home screen isn't normal-when i scroll the page, it doesnt "bounce" into place like normally but stays in one place(i dont have the freeboard tweak), i cant click on anything(just wont open), i cant do a respring trough sbsettings(is there a program to do it on pc or sth?), hard reboot wont help either...
I wouldnt like to restore cause i have my ipod set up so nicely, alot of apps too...
Please help! im on 4.1

PLEASE, is there any solution to get it workin properly whitout restoring, i still can SSH into the ipod so is there sth to delete or sth?
