You have to use Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to put you into DFU mode first, not a manual DFU mode.

I did that but when I go into iTunes and try to restore the custom firmware of iPhone1,2_4.2.1 it says, "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible."

What is the name of the firmware you are trying to restore to? Does it have a white puzzle looking cubed icon?

Are you sure you have a 3G and not a 3GS? Is the writing on the back where it says iPhone dark grey or bright silver?

Don't use DFU mode .Put your iphone into recovery mode and restore to stock 4.2.1 again.

Thanks everyone, I found the solution.
My friend didn't know and told me it was a 3g but thanks to you x98car, it is a iphone 3gs. I thought a 3gs would be engraved on the back of the phone but I guess it is not.
Edit: I have another question. Is there an untethered jailbreak for iphone 3gs 4.2.1 available? Because I cannot find anything. If so, please give me the link. THANK YOU!
