Jailbreaking my iPhone

I have or had,not sure, firmware 3.0 and downloaded 4.2.1 with redsn0w.I did everything it said and all went fine until the last step which is rebooting the phone.It stays there and doesn't do anything else while the phone is blank,on dfu mode. I restored it it to firmware 4.2 I'm guessing.I have never done this before and I dont know what I did wrong. Can someone help me please?

Are you able to turn the phone on? If so, go to Settings > General > About and tell me the "Version" of it.

Also, which iPhone is this?

Once you answer these I think I'll be able to help you out.

It sound like you are trying to update with redsnow. Redsnow doesnt update or restore firmware. Only itunes can do that.

Yeah,its with redsnow.

And I can't turn it on,it's an iphone 3g but the only thing that shows is connect to itunes.So I can't do anything else.

Are you trying to unlock this or just trying to update and then jailbreak?
