Downgrading 4.2.1 to 4.1 problem
I can't find an answer to this.
I'm trying to downgrade the iphone 4 from ios 4.2.1 to 4.1
I used the updated tinyumbrella to save the shsh.
I added this to the bottom of my hosts "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com"
without the " of course.
I have the 4.1 ipsw for the iphone 4. I did DFU mode for recovery in itunes, but when it goes to preparing iphone for restore, it gets stuck there, then after about 5 minutes it get the 1604 error message. The firmware does not downgrade.
TSS server is running on tinyumbrella when i try doing all this.
Also this is my host file

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
#74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

I think tinyumbrella is adding:
#74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
what am I doing wrong about this downgrading?
Please show me the solution. Thanks!

Are you trying to restore to a custom 4.1 firmware? That error is usually associated with custom firmware. When did you save your 4.1 SHSH originally?

I don't think it's a custom ipsw. Here's the link i got it from:
Download iOS 4.1 Firmware for iPhone and iPod Touch | iPhoneHeat
And that might be a problem. You said save 4.1 SHSH? I saved the 4.2.1 SHSH and tried downgrading.
I can only downgrade iOS's if I have the SHSH of the firmware I'm trying to downgrade to?
Because, I downgraded my 3GS from 4.2.1 to 4.1 without a SHSH saved. I'm not sure how it worked though

Ya you need SHSH for 4.1 now to be able to restore to it. It wouldnt normally give you that error though. The files in that link look like normal ones to me so not sure what is going on to cause the 1604 error.

Hmmm, weird. So there is no other way to downgrade?

You do need shsh blob for 3gs, iphone 4 for every restore when apple has stopped signing that firmware.
Tiny umbrella by default will set your hosts file pointing towards Cydia.
So plug your iphone in and click save shsh in TU to see if you actually have 4.1 shsh file or not.
If you don't have it, then there is nothing you can do.

ok well I remember and all I have is the 4.2.1 SHSH. I think that its stupid that you can't downgrade without an SHSH.
