How to upgrade 3gs from 3.1.2 to newest possible firmware?.
how to upgrade 3gs from 3.1.2 to newest possible firmware?.
I have a jailbroke 3gs on firmware 3.1.2 which I jailbroke some time ago, can I upgrade to a newer firmware and how can I do this. I tried back a few monthes back with no avail, so I put it aside, I have been looking and cannot find anywhere to do this or if it can be done. any help would be appreciated. I need to do something soon as I have been having problems with my iPhone freezing and also doing weird ****. I do need to keep it jailbroke. Also I belive but not 100% that I used Blackrain last to jailbreak my iphone, when I start it up it shows a pineapple with a chunck out of it,
Not sure if this is needed but here it is:
The Version is 3.1.2 (7D11)
Model is MC149C
on Cydia it shows in light green SHSH: iOS 3.1., 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1
I download tinyumbrella and click save my SHSH and it seamed to have saved my SHSH.
Thanks

If you don't need an unlock , first update your itunes to the latest and hit restore to take you to 4.2.1 and then jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.6b6

Did you update to 4.2.1 using IYeow stock apple firmware instructions? Or are you still researching?
A custom firmware can upgrade to 4.2.1 (from anything) and keep your unlock capabilities.
If a stock upgrade to 4.2.1. Hmmm. I'm not 100% positive it can be done, never read any reports, but maybe now the only not-so-great option is to install the iPad Baseband.Last edited by Mes; 12-05-2010 at 08:55 PM.

Yes, if you have free time, come on in and you can reply to threads and read some of the posts and very soon ,you will be an expert too.
For the first past two years, when i first had my iphone 1st gen, i did all my jailbreaking all by myself ,start with OS 1.0.2 and it was so difficult and no help.
Then I came in here and did a reply on a thread, i still remember Dhamien was the first one to answer my post and I truly respected him. From that day on, i have been coming in here to check things out and help out and now becomes a Moderator..lolLast edited by iYeow; 12-05-2010 at 09:07 PM.

Is there a step by step guide in how to do this?
Sorry for my ignorance just trying figure this all out, its coming together from what I have been reading does not sound like there is any benifit to update to 4.2.1., 4.0.1 will be just fine and I can keep it unlocked.Last edited by alpineman; 12-05-2010 at 10:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Since your iphone is working now. This is the best time to do this :
Run tiny umbrella, plug in your iphone. TU will recognize your device. Click save shsh.
When you exit tiny umbrella, by default your hosts file points towards Cydia server. If you have all the shsh , then you don't have to worry. Any verification , will be verified by Cydia, not Apple.
From TU, you will see all the shsh when you select your device.
If you have 4.1 shsh , then you can get to 4.1 using custom firmware via Geohot's DFU .
You can use Snowbreeze to build a 4.1 custom firmware.
In order to use Geohot's DFU, you run Redsn0w to put your iphone into DFU mode.
Once you are in DFU mode, open up itunes .
Press Shift key , hold it and press restore, a box will open up to select the firmware.
Now you select the custom firmware you have created which is named Snowbreeze_4.1.ipsw on your Desktop.
All custom firmware will not touch your baseband, and therefore you can unlock with Ultrasn0w.

Ok, you can use Pwnage tools 4.1.2 to create cfw of 4.1 , not sure PT 4.1.3 can create 4.1. Once you have created, you can use PT to put you into DFU mode or Redsn0w to put you into DFU mode. I suggest you don't let Pwnage tool hactivate it , it is better to activate with your valid sim.
