Iphone 4 4.2.1 downgrade and jailbreak

ive got an iphone 4 on 4.2.1, can i downgrade the firmware to 4.1 then use limera1n or greenpois0n to jailbreak it and be untethered??

is there any special way to downgrade or is it just a case of download ios 4.1 then in itunes hold down shift when i restore

Only if you have SHSH for 4.1. You can download tiny umbrella to find out.

i aint got my SHSH so does it mean im stuck on 4.2.1 and have to use tethered jailbreak by redsnow??

dont like the fact that i have to reboot my phone using laptop if it dies or needs rebooting

If your iphone 4 OTB is 4.2.1, you will not have any shsh other than 4.2.1 which will have to save thru TU.

Yup, you are stuck for now then. Hopefully Dev team can come up with a untethered jailbreak soon.

ok if i go the tethered route can i change to the untethered route if and when it comes out?

doesnt say nothing about needing SHSH for 4.1 firmware

When that article came out SHSH were not needed as 4.1 was the current firmware so Apple was still allowing restoring to 4.1 then.

You should be able to but there is no way to know for sure what the method will entail. Save your SHSH now though for 4.2.1 if you havent already.

Download tiny umbrella from the link I gave you above, connect your phone and press save SHSH

Cant post links to custom firmware here though, also pwnage tool doesnt "officially" support making a custom 4.2.1 for i4 yet.

Yeah he is in the same boat as I am. I just got a new i4 yesterday and it is on iOS 4.2.1 so I have no shsh blobs backed up due to it being new and now I have to wait for a non tethered JB. I still thinking about doing the tethered but it is going to be a PITA!
