error 1015 AND error 1600
I'm at a standstill with what to do with this phone for my dad. I helped him unlock it with pwnage but he was having some of the issues that SAM was said to fix. I go to reinstall 4.2.1 on his white 3G and if I restore the phone in restore mode it goes about halfway and freezes for about 5 min before giving me a 1015 error. If I restore in DFU it right away gives me 1600.
I'm trying to do this from my MacBook and I tried on my dads mac mini. I'm not sure what to do here. I guess I can run parallels and run ireb to see if that will get rid of the 1015 error, but I'm not even sure ireb works with 4.2.1

If you do not need an unlock, you can just restore to stock 4.2.1. Error 1015 means that when IOS 4.2.1 checks for the baseband , and if it doesn't match, it will throw out an error and cannot be kicked out by any tool.

it does and was upgraded to the 6.15.00 last week. I think maybe something got messed up with the 4.2.1 made from Pwnage tool since when I tried to remake a firmware it keeps giving me a wrong firmware bundle error. I'm right now trying to redownload the ipsw to go from there.

Since you have a mac, use Pwnage tools 4.1.3 to create a custom firmware of 4.2.1 , use the pwnage tools to put your iphone into DFU mode or You can use Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 (Mac version)to put you into DFU and the open up itunes and restore to this newly created custom firmware of 4.2.1
Make sure you have the latest itunes.
No wonder, you have the ipad baseband. You cannot restore to any future stock firmware of IOS 4.2.1 or higher.
You can only restore to custom firmware and all future updates should be CFW.Last edited by iYeow; 12-05-2010 at 12:25 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

but I'm getting these errors with the custom firmwares that I made last week with pwnage tool. I'm going to try and remake them as soon as the ipsw finish downloading

You have to either use Redsn0w to put you into dfu mode or Pwnage tools to put you into dfu mode. You cannot manually put your iphone into DFU mode.

I knew that, it wasn't working at all before. Now that I've been using Pwnage tool is when I'm getting the 1015 error.
pwnage tool for the DFU I mean
UPDATE: Still no luck, I'm no loner getting the 1600 error however. Only the 1015
I'm only trying to install cfw from pwnage but its only gong about 2/3s of the way on the progress bar on the iPhone before stopping. On my laptop the progress bar is going through the Restoring and verifying stages. Then it goes to the Restoring a second time before. Its also taking longer than usual for iTunes to connect to the iPod server.Last edited by auh; 12-05-2010 at 09:19 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

If you have wifi synced installed, Wifi sync will cause the progress bar to halt. Unistalled it, then you should be fine.

WHy not build a new custom 4.1 firmware then restore to that. If you're on 4.1 (even with BB 6.15) you can use tiny umbrella to kick your phone out of recovery.

Build a custom 4.2.1 without the baseband update in it. Then you will not get the 1015 error.
