Hi New member, Odd Problem

ok last X-mas i bought a iPod 3g brand new. i jailbroke it the same day and have done little but updated to 3.1.3 too earlie causing it to lose it's jailbreak. I found a way to rejailbreak it by downgrading to the 2g's 3.1.2 firmware well now i have done it again and updated to 4.2.1 in hopes of finding a way to jailbreak it, and i have come up empty handed, i have tried everything and can't seem to get it. i have used greenpoison, redsnow and limerain any thoughts or questions? thanks for any help.

You cannot jailbreak your ipod touch 3g yet at 4.2.1. You can only jailbreak at 4.1 with GreenPoison or Limera1n.
To downgrade , you will need 4.1 shsh blobs.

Edit-- sorry, didn't realize till I read yeow's post that it's an iPod. Too used to iPhones.

redsnow 0.9.6b6 can jailbreak iPod touch 3G on 4.2.1. But it will be a tethered jailbreak.

x98car is correct. You will have to connect it to your computer and run redsn0w every time.

i ave trid Redsn0w with no success, it has the 2g's Firmware and won't take 3g back, when i run redsn0w it does everything except reboot my ipod forcing me to hard boot it undoing everything that redsn0w was supost to have done.

How can it have the 2g firmware on it? Itunes wont let you restore to the wrong firmware.

ok i am not sure how i got it to take 2g firmware but it did. this is a step by step of my ipods life.

1. bought it brand new at firmware 3.1.2 jailbroke it less than an hour after getting it home.

2. updated to 3.1.3,lost the jailbreak, couldn't re-jailbreak it, tried to downgrade it using itunes shift+restore method, itunes said firmware was not compatable.

3. downloaded 3.1.2 for a 2g and shift+restore method using itunes and my ipod took it.

4. updated to 4.2.1 (don't care about untethered, never run my ipod down past 5% battery)tried multipul methods with no luck.

the farthest i have gotten is with Redsn0w. it did everything but reboot my ipod and i have to force boot it causing it to revert back.


it is an 8gb model.

Yeah, 8gb "3g" was just an "2g" with the new bootrom that made it harder to JB.

There is no jailbreak out for that model iTouch 2G yet on 4.2.1. If you have SHSH you can go to 4.1 and jailbreak with greenpoison. If not then you are stuck until the jailbreaks are updated to work with MC model iTouch on 4.2.1
