iPhone 3GS on 3.1.3 with baseband 06.15.00

Hey guys,

I have an unlocked iphone 3GS 3.1.3 jailbroken with spirit. I wanted to upgrade to iOS 4.1.
I used redsn0w to upgrade by baseband to 06.15.00. So currently my phone is unlocked, running 3.1.3 with the 06.15.00 firmware. Can anyone tell me how can I upgrade my phone to the latest iOS that has an untethered jailbreak?

If you have the new bootrom, then you can restore to stock 4.1 (the highest untethered jailbreak) with your save 4.1 shsh blogs.
If you have the old bootrom, then you can only restore to custom fw of 4.2.1 or any future CFW of 4.2.1 or higher.

i have the old bootrom (359.3.2). In that case if I update to 4.2.1, will I have to jailbreak everytime I reboot the phone?

You have the new bootrom not the old bootrom . Old bootrom will be like this 359.3 .
Yes, if you restore to cfw of 4.2.1, you will get tethered jailbreak. Everytime you respring or power down, you will need a computer to power up.

How do I go about upgrading to 4.1. I have the iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw file. Should I just restore my phone using Option+Restore in iTunes? Will I have to jailbreak and unlock the device again?

Yes, you can shift + restore to stock 4.1 with the help of 4.1 shsh blobs.
You can use Tss server to do that.

I cannot seem to save the SHSH blobs. For some reason, Cydia is no longer installed on my phone and Tiny Umbrella hangs everytime when I try to run it on my mac. Any advise?

I installed another version of Tinyumbrella (v4.1.13). This time, it saved the SHSH. But after starting the TSS Server, I got Error 3002. I placed the phone in dfu mode and tried again, but I got the same error. Should I use a different version of the software or try and restore in dfu mode without running Tinyumbrella?

1) iPhone3GS 4.2.1 (8C148a)
2) iPhone3GS 4.2b3 (8C5115c)

Do I still continue to restore to 4.1?

You wont be able to restore to 4.1 because you dont have 4.1 SHSH. You can only go to 4.2.1 now if you restore.

Sorry to say but ya, that is your only option now. Hopefully dev team can come up with a way to untether it soon.

Its not that bad though, I do it for my i4.
