Default Am I in hot water? 4.1 + 6.15.00. Please HELP!

Hey guys, I've been a long time reader of modmyi, but this is my first time posting so please be kind

I was recently given an iphone 3GS on firmware 4.1.

Before doing anything, I downloaded TinyUmbrella and saved my SHSH blob, which amounted to a Saved SHSH of "iPhone 3GS 4.2b3 (8C5115c).

I took the phone into Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and jailbroke it using the 4.1 stock firmware and upgrading the baseband to 06.15.00 as I needed the phone to be unlocked.

After the jailbreak, the phone kept starting up in DFU mode and I tried everything from iRecovery to seemingly everything else mentioned on the forum to get it out of automatic DFU mode but no dice. I tried upgraded to 4.2.1 but had the same problem.

I was able to go back to 4.1 successfully and now I can boot into the phone using the tethered option on Redsn0w but as soon as the phone restarts for any reason it goes right back to DFU mode.

My problem is... what if I'm out driving and the phone locks up (which happens often to me with iPhones that are jailbroken)... I'll be stuck without a phone until I get back home to run Redsn0w? Is there any way to have it simply boot back into the OS automatically without having to run redsn0w every time? If not... is there any way to remove the jailbreak so that I can just use the phone normally until an untethered option arrives or is there already an untethered option available for 4.1?

I'm dying to use this phone and can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated right now... I've been banging my head on the wall for 3 days on this.

The information in TinyUmbrella currently states:
    Model: MB716LL/A
    Firmware 4.1
    Baseband 06.15.00-6.4_M3S2

P.S. it might help to say I have the new bootrom. At least, redsn0w identifies it as such when I try and ruin it in tethered mode.

    Thanks again guys!

4.1 is supposed to be untethered

Can you restore to the original 4.1? it'll most likely give you a 1015 error, but use tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery mode.

Or you can also try using a custom 4.1 ipsw
The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

You have the new bootrom and you have already restored to 4.2.1 which is a tethered jailbreak. There is no way for you to restore to stock 4.1 ipsw. There is only one solution to get untethered jailbreak. You can only restore to custom firmware of 4.1 to get untethered jailbreak.
Use Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 to put you into DFU and then restore to CFW of 4.1 created by Pwnage tools 4.1.3

OK, this is what you do :
Run redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and browse to stock 4.2.1 because your iphone is now at that fw.
Check only the box : dfu and perform this action until DFU is done
Shift + restore to this link in your PM box.
I have switch the ext from .ipsw to .zip. When you receive it, just rename back the ext from .zip to .ipsw

    Go check your pm box.

You have to install ultrasn0w to unlock after the restore to this cfw of 4.1.

ok, downloading it right now I'll update as soon as I try it.

    Hey iYeow,

So I followed your instructions to the tee. It went through the process on itunes and gave me the message that it had successfully restored my iphone to 4.1 and that all of the factory defaults had been restored.

The iPhone rebooted and stayed in DFU mode. No apple logo, no connect to itunes, nada.

Not sure what to do at this point to get it out of DFU mode and back functioning the way it was. Any ideas?

restored to the cfw you sent me on megaupload. Also tried doing a hard reset but it's still in DFU. It shows up in itunes but tells me to restore it all over again.

What firmware do you want? 4.1 or 4.2.1

Use redsn0w to put your iph into dfu mode and restore to stock 4.1. Use tss server to verify your 4.1 blobs.

    I'd rather have 4.1

    Trying your instructions right now.

"The iPhone could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (1015)."

This is normal, you can use Exit recovery from the feature of Tiny Umbrella.
This is due to the baseband doesn't match the firmware.

Problem is... tinyumbrella doesn't see the device in recovery mode. It's in DFU now and tinyumbrella no longer even sees it

To clarify... it keeps restarting as DFU not in recovery. Black Screen

And now you have the ipad baseband, correct. In other words, you cannot restore to stock firmware of 4.2.1 anymore.

Give me the first 5 serial number starting from the left, if you still have the box.

One thing I don't understand, are you sure you successfully restored to stock 4.1, you indicated that you don't have 4.1 shsh blogs. Maybe my cfw of 4.1 is not compatible, i build it based on my oldbootrom.

Use Snowbreeze 2.1 to build your 4.1 custom firmware.
Run ireb 4.1 release 2 and select your device.
Follow the instruction to put you into DFU mode.
Once this DFU is done, open up itunes , and restore to this custom fw of 4.1 built by Snowbreeze 2.1, it will be named snowbreeze_4.1.ipsw placed on your desktop.

No, no no I DO have the 4.1 SHSH Blobs registered on tiny umbrella. I registered it before I updated anything which is why I don't understand why I can't revert back to 4.1 with the dfu loop?

It's now on the iPad baseband and 4.1 stock ... but still it keeps rebooting into DFU

You started off with DFu problem. This is your only option.
If you don't have 4.1 shsh file, how do you get to stock 4.1, it is impossible.
Your only option is to run redsn0w to put you into dfu and then restore to custom fw of 4.2.1.
If after restoring, you still get dfu, your iphone is screwed.
