4.2.1 is a tethered jailbreak right now for iPhone 4 so you may want to stay away until it is untethered. If you have 4.1 SHSH you can restore to that and jailbreak no problem.

I never upgrade to 4.1 I ran tinyumbrella and save my SHSH and this is what was saved 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1, 4.2.1 & 4.2b3. So do I have the 4.1 SHSH?

Yes you do. So you can just download the 4.1 firmware: iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download

Open tiny umbrella, run the tss server then shift-click restore to the 4.1 firmware you downloaded. You may get a error 1004 near the end of the restore, just use tiny umbrella to kick out of recovery with the exit recovery button at the top right.

I just upgraded my 4.0.1 to 4.1 using TinyUmbrella. Now on 1.59.00 baseband.

After I got that error message, I chose the Exit Recovery button, my iPhone went to the mode for before activation mode. I had to use my AT&T simcard to activate it. Was I suppose to be in that mode?

I'm trying to unlock my phone but I can't figure out how to Jailbreak this phone without updating my baseband.

    Any advice?

To jailbreak it you need to use either limera1n, greenpoison, or redsn0w. Dont worry about the ipad unlock thing, that only applies on iPhone 3G/3GS. You just need to jailbreak, install cydia, then install ultrasn0w from cydia.

Sorry, I don't know what the iPad thing is about. I'm guessing that's not related to iPhone4?

I read on some comments from tutorials that I can use limera1n and it will not update the baseband. My main concern was that jailbreaking using those 3 methods will update my baseband.

limera1n and greenpoison dont update baseband. Redsnow does but only if you select the option to do it and only on 3G/3GS.
