want to update to 4.2
Hello
I have unlocked iphone 3g jailbroken currently on software version 3.0. Now i want to update this version as it very old (latest 4.2) but if i do it from itunes i know it will get locked.
So can someone tell me the best solution to update without it getting locked. I dont mind if there is a solution for update version for 4.0 or 4.1.
thanks

If you want to update to 4.2.1 and preserve your baseband then pwnage tool is your only option. You need to make a custom 4.2.1 firmware in it (do not use the ipad baseband update feature) and then restore to that custom 4.2.1 in itunes. You will need a mac though to make the custom firmware.

When restoring to a custom firmware you need to put the iphone into pwned dfu with either pwnage tool or redsnow before opening itunes and restoring to the custom firmware.

You can use SB 2.1 to create a cfw of 4.1. Run redsn0w to put u into dfu mode, open up iTunes shift + restore to the cfw of 4.1
Make sure you update iTunes first.Last edited by iYeow; 12-04-2010 at 05:29 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
