First, I hope this is the right forum. This isn't about direct jailbreaking per se, but it does relate to it...somewhat.
I have an iPod touch fourth generation with 4.1 installed. I used greenpois0n to jailbreak it.
i attempted to install the new Cydia via IFunBox yesterday and it kept crashing. So I removed Cydia via IFunBox and then spent a couple of hours reading tutorials on how to SSH it back onto my iPod. Now the Cydia icon is white and continues to crash on start up.
I used Safari and iFile to install the new Cydia again. Icon still white and crashing. Then I found a link to the old Cydia and attempted to downgrade. Still white and crashing. However, it seems that Cydia is still connecting somehow, as I got a red "1" symbol over it after I attempted to load it
I figured I had to re-jailbreak my iPod, so I downloaded the 4.1 firmware from Apple (didn't want to upgrade to 4.2). I put the iPod in DFU mode and attempted to restore with 4.1, but got a 3019 error. That supposedly had something to do with the unable to connect with Apple's servers, but I can't figure that out.
Documentation for redsn0w is non-existent and the program warns you to not use it if you don't know what you're doing, so I stopped.
I can still install stuff if I have the .deb file by going to Safari and downloading the file via iFile. Just to test, I installed something and it worked. But I'd really like Cydia back so I can purchase the apps.
If so, then you can just restore to 4.1 and use redsn0w 0.9.6b5 or PwnageTool 4.1.3 to jailbreak it, both have the new Cydia on them. If you don't, and you REALLY want the new Cydia, you can always update to 4.2.1 and live with a tethered jailbreak.
Now if you've still got Loader.app on your iPT from GP and you don't wanna bother with restoring, you can try deleting the .deb file(s) you SSHed over and running that to install Cydia instead... good luck!
Unfortunately, I do not have the SHSH blobs, because the tutorial I followed didn't tell me to back those up before jailbreaking.
I would be fine with the old Cydia for now, if it just worked. Another thing to note is that I attempted to download the .deb file for CyDelete (hoping it could uninstall Cydia) and it wouldn't install. It said "dependency problems - leaving unconfigured" and error code 256.
Another question: since i have FolderEnhancer installed, how would my springboard placement be affected if i were to upgrade to 4.2 and do with a tethered jailbreak (or wait until the devs figure out how to untether it)?
Thank you very much.
EDIT; I plugged the Ethernet cable into the modem (it was in the wireless router since I was using SSH), which resolved that problem; I was able to restore. I'm gonna get the SHSH blobs right now and then jailbreak with redsn0w.
EDIT2: Jailbroke with redsn0w, Cydia works now. THANK YOU.
