Help - This 3GS will not JB by any means!!!
I originally had it JB iOS 3.1.3 (jailbreakme.com) and everything was working fine, but I wanted some of the newer fetures, so I had to tinker... tried using TU TSS server to upgrade to 4.0, 4.01, and 4.1 and got the message "firmware not compatible" in iTunes. tried several different computers (XP, win7, admin rights, 32 bit Java etc... same results.
Decided to bite the bullet and just upgrade to 4.1 through iTunes before 4.2 was released knowing that JB and unlock would soon follow. That went perfectly, sort of...
Now, none of the JB methods work. GP and limera1n will not recognize DFU mode, redsn0w only "works" if phone is in recovery mode, but will not reboot on its own and I have to manually take it out of DFU mode for reboot. Redsn0w says that it is finished, but nothing on the phone has changed, no Cydia and no signs of JB. (tried multiple versions of each software including most recent as of 12/01)
Tried sn0wbreeze 2.1 to make my own and iTunes tells me that it is not compatible.
Yes, I'm sure that my phone is in DFU mode; redsn0w recognizes it as such and so does my computer.
I'm no slouch when it comes to computers and used to program access cards for DTV. Never had this much of a problem.
Any more suggestions to try?

If you have 4.1 shsh blogs, restore to a stock 4.1 again, run the latest version of redsn0w : check only install Cydia and install ipad baseband.
Once jailbroken, install Ultrsn0w from Cydia to unlock.

No luck, now getting the "not compatible" warning for 4.1 ipsw (iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore) in iTunes. tried a new download of of 4.1, no luck. It is an older 3GS (week 29) and I have selected "no" at the prompt for newer models. I have tried everything I can think of.
is it normal to have to be in recovery mode in addition to DFU for redsn0w to work and to force it out of DFU mode for reboot/completion of install?
As a side note, my wife has a 3G (4.0.1) that is JB and unlocked no problems. When I connect to either of them in iTunes, iTunes thinks it is the same device and even downloaded the apps that she installed OTA for me to add to my device. That is not common, is it?
just a thought...
Maybe my router is blocking port 80. Would make sense as to why neither of my computers can get the jailbreak to work if TU cannot intercept because of the router. Briefly went through the settings on the router (gateway 2wire) and could not find the settings for it.
Going to lug the dinosaur laptop to work tonight and try it on their wireless network. Wish me luckLast edited by docneon; 12-02-2010 at 11:26 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
