can i keep 5.13 baseband with 4.2 iphone 3g?
can i keep 5.13 baseband with 4.2 iphone 3g?
hello,
i've been searching hi and low but i was wondering if i can use either pwnagetool, redsn0w or sn0wbreeze to accomplish this on an iphone 3g. i'm under the impression you can keep a particular bb as long as you dont update it; and then be able to update firmware. has apple implemented bb checks into the ios firmware now?
thanks.

Yes, you can restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 created by pwnage tools 4.1.3 in order to keep your 5.13 baseband.

hello - just to update; pwnagetool updated my 5.13 iphone 3g just fine to 4.2.1 without updating my baseband. also my I was able to keep my 5.13 baseband on 4.2.1 with my iphone 3GS (old bootrom) by running pwnagetool w/the proper firmware bundle.
the weird thing was on the 3gs this was the first time pwnagetool didn't install cydia; so i dont think it was jailbroken correctly. i hooked it upto redsn0w, pointed it to the original 4.1.2 ipsw and clicked install cydia and ran it. redsn0w installed cydia for me this way.

Yes, you are correct. Pwnage tools should install Cydia but this pwnage tools for 3gs is unofficial and has the minimal bundle and i consider it as half jailbroken tool. There is no official Pwnage tools to jailbreak 3gs at 4.2.1. If I were you, and you have 4.1 shsh blobs, i would go back to IOS 4.1 and stay there until a better jailbreak is released.
There is no point going to 4.2.1 and getting problems. Besides , I don't think most of the cydia stuffs are ported to 4.2.1 yet.
Cydia stuffs will only be ported to 4.2.1 if the majority of jailbreakers can get untethered jailbreak on their devices.
