Pwnagetool 4.1.3 UNLOCKED Edition Question
I'm on iOS 4.1 right now with BB 5.13.04, and I wanna use Pwnagetool 4.1.3 to preserve my baseband of 5.13.04, while upgrading to 4.2.1 at the same time.
I understand that this is going to be tethered, but is it possible to preserve my baseband?

Yes, it is possible to preserve your baseband this way.

So, I can be on iOS 4.2.1, and keep a BB of 5.13.04? Just wanna double confirm it.

What device is yours ? Pwnage tools will not touch your baseband until you tell it to.

You would need pwnage tool and the extra bundle the dev team released for 3GS 4.2.1. You would have to drag that bundle into pwnage tool as detailed on the dev team blog. After restoring to the custom firmware you still need to jailbreak with redsn0w to add cydia. It will be a tethered jailbreak for you though, may not be worth the effort.

But my BB will still remain 5.13.04 right?

Yup, just make sure you say no when it asks you about the ipad update part.

I guess I will wait for an untethered jailbreak, I guess it's not worth going through all the trouble..

I just tried Pwnage tools on my 3gs old bootrom, it doesn't seem to activate and doesn't put Cydia on my device.
Lucky i have an ATNT sim card to trigger.
Ran Redsn0w to put Cydia on it.
Everything works fine but the activation screen keeps popping up

Ya, dev team said it is just a minimal bundle for 3GS on 4.2.1. Redsn0w is still needed to do the rest of the process.

Eh how did u get to springboard even if you said you're stuck on activation screen?
I guess I will wait till the untethered JB comes out, or the last day Apple is signing 4.2.1.

My rogers sim has been converted to micro sim for my iphone 4, so my rogers sim has no service. I will just go to a friend and pop in a regular sim just to make the annoying message go away.
Redsn0w should put a feature box : activate iphone..Lol
