Jailbreaking 3g

I need some help trying to JB a 3g 4.2 with reds0w I go through everything when I go into DFU mode it says its updating ramdisk then says its finished but never leaves DFU mode and never JB please help thanks

You can try running it in windows xp sp2 compatibility, run as admin.

right click on redsnow and choose troubleshoot compatibility and go through the process picking windows xp sp2. To run as admin you right clcik on it and choose run as administrator

I have iphone 3g 4.2 and I have tried jailbreaking it. I'm on windows vista and cannot choose xp sp3 as advised in other threads so i choose xp sp2 and ran as administrator but the same thing happens it says unable to recognise specified IPSW. I have also tried running task manager but not sure how to change the CPU thing. Can someone please help it's driving me crazy been at it for 2 days now.

If it says unable to recognize ipsw then either you have the wrong firmware or you ipsw may have a .zip extension. If it does you need to change it from .zip to .ipsw or try downloading it again with a different internet browser.

I have:
Win 7
3G fw 4.2.1 mb model not jb
Redsn0w 0.9.6b5
4.2.1 ipsw & the iPad ipsw
I have gone through all the steps properly & I am using compatibility mode settings, but ever time redsn0w runs it says it's complete and my iPhone will do the rest. The nothing happens it stays black!
Any ideas?

hi quick question does anyone know if tinyumbrella works to kick 3g out of recovery with the 4.2 going to ipad firmware?


i could figure this out if i had the phone in hand but its one i sent to someone in italy and well they updated from 4.1 to 4.2

i have been sending him links to get this all figured out so he can be unlocked and jb again... i dont speak italian so its a bit ruff.

they said it goes though the whole deal and says wait for reboot and well it never does. any info would be great or even if there was someone that could help them out in italy rome i would be very greatfull.

since i cant help them to well here in indiana lol.

Not yet it doesn't because of the new baseband check. It still works when going to 4.1 though.

Not yet but tiny umbrella is getting updated to support it. It does not have this check if you update instead of restore though so you can try that if you want to stay on 4.2.1.

I tried as you said above not sure about the zip part but downloaded from firefox and internet explorer and still says unable to recognise ipsw. Is there anything else I can do or should I just give up and take it to shop and pay for them to do it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do this: Vista: Show Extensions for Known File Types | Microsoft Vista | Tech-Recipes

Then change the extension from .zip to .ipsw
