iphone nearly dead, please help .. i'm making it worse and worse
Hi all,
Iphone 3GS (old bootrom). Had that thing jailbroken and unlocked on 3.x. gave it to my girlfriend as present. 3 weeks ago she said she saw "the sad mac", and since then problem with signal.
I updated to 4.1 JB, unlocked -> no service
I was waiting for 4.2.1 to be released with new unlock
So two days ago I updated to 4.2.1, ran the newest redsn0w with newest baseband upgrade (iPad). All seemed to work fine, but still no service after ultrasn0w
I read on forums that it might have been activated/notactivated, so I restored (itunes) to 4.2.1 and now I'm really stuck (recovery loop)
I read on the forums here that the only way out is to downgrade to 4.1. I don't have any blobs
I changed with redsn0w to DFU mode, with iTunes I tried to restore:
- official 4.1: verify iphone restore with apple, then error 3194 before any restore attempt (takes a minute or two)
- a custom one I made with sn0wbreeze: very same thing (3194)
- i downloaded "iPhone2_1_4.1_8B117_Custom_Restore.ipsw", it came in two parts, extracted with 7-zip: result "firmware file is not compatible". this I don't understand at all. maybe someone else has a different download that might work.
Anyway, is there anything you can help me with. I'm badly stuck. I'm trying this for weeks now (i know my fault)

update ... i finally managed to get back at it.
I was able to restore the phone with an old 4.0 iOS that I once made with sn0wbreeze. phone booted :-) then I updated Cydia, installed ultrasn0w1.2
rebooted the phone and now instead of just having no signals the phone is searching and then comes back again with "no service".
So all in all I have a 3GS (old bootrom) with ioS 4.0, Baseband 06.16.00, ultrasn0w and 'no service'
I'm glad the phone itself works again, but is there any way to get this to work with signal?Last edited by kalliz; 11-30-2010 at 10:10 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

have you tried using a different sim card?
In the end we're all just chalk lines on the concrete, drawn only to be washed away. For the time that I've been given, I am what I am.

IT WAS THE ANTENNA !!!!!! woohhhoooo sorry for shouting, but I just feel like it
I never mentioned in original post, I have another 3GS that works and I tried with that SIM the whole time. same thing
I was so desperate when i got home I checked on youtube on how to take them apart (mini screwdriver and sucky). I accidentally disconnected a connector at the top (near SIM card). put that back in and saw that there was a button connector was loose. Put that in and ..... tatattaaaaaa O2 !!
all good. in my phone it is where the lower right corner of touchpad would be. it's just a strap that has a button at the end that with a lot of patience and fingertips you can et back on....
girlfriend is delighted with me :-)
I'll see if I can find a picture on internet
