Upgrade Help 4.x.x???

Hi i'm currently using a 3GS 3.1.2 that was jb with blackrain about a year ago. since then i haven't really did much with my phone as far as upgrade and maintainence. My question is do you think its feasible for me to upgrade to 4+ software. If so which software should i upgrade to? Which program should i use? I'm have windows xp and I'm not sure whether my phone is new boot or old boot. I'm still using AT&T service as my phone is not unlocked. Any help/advice/suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

make sure Cydia has your hashes.

try aiming for 4.1 via pwnagetool. Steady firmware and it is untethered on old\new bootroms so you'd be safe. pwnagetool bc it'll protect your baseband, increasing the value of your device.

I have windows xp. I thought pawnagetool was for mac only??? Also how can I find out if cydia has my hades and if it doesn't how can I correct that. Thanks
