Where does my iPhone 4.0 fall on today's jailbreaking path?
I have an iPhone 4.0 from launch day, neither jailbroken or updated ever. Can someone breakdown how I should proceed? I am worried I've missed out on SSH blobs and so on. Now I don't want to misstep.
Well another thing is I would like to erase the phone just for a clean slate, but don't know a few things. Like would I be forced to update to 4.2.1, and do I want to do that anyway?
I am having trouble understanding what is the most desirable path, even with these guides. I assume the only SSH blob I can create is 4.2.1?
Download Tiny Umbrella and save the blobs you can.
There is no major changes in the OS just a few bug fixes and 4.3 will be out soon. So if your not having any issues you may want to just hang in there for a while.
SportCenter was the only major thing I believe.
Ooof... I was afraid of this. Are we calling this a bad time to jailbreak? Like a new exploit will come out for 4.3 that I should wait for? And I wish I understood the new baseband issue and how to avoid it.
Google is your friend. ANd You Tube is flooded with vids about how, why, and why not.
Meh, I'm on 4.0.1 and am staying there till I either have to restore to cure an issue, or a new OS is released that has improvements that I want, or are necessary for some apps that have been ported only for the new OS.
You choice.
These are the questions or searches I've struck out on. I'm hoping someone who'd know better than me has an opinion of what they'd do or not with a 4.0 baseband 01.59.00-ICE_2_6 iPhone before I lock myself out of something good.

Like cadi said there isnt a whole lot to be gained by updating right now. Save your shsh with tiny umbrella now for 4.1 while apple is still signing it. That is the update you would want to go to if you really want to update as going to 4.2.1 would mean a tethered jailbreak right now. If you want to keep the ability to unlock then your safest bet is staying put or make sure you know how to preserve your 1.59.00 baseband before going to 4.1.
TinyUmbrella appears only to have saved 4.2.1 and 4.2b3 SHSHs. Aren't I too late to do anything with 4.1? Am I also out of luck on an official erase/like new phone?
Afaik apple was still signing 4.1 as of earlier today. I hope this doesnt mean they have stopped finally. I havent seen anything on twitter yet about it.
So what about erasing the phone? I would really enjoy brand new settings, but will this force me to the latest firmware? Or is there a way to come back in with 4.0?
I just tried again on a Mac to back up 4.1, but am getting the THERE IS NO WAY message. Anything I should try outside TinyUmbrella? This is going to suck/be really ironic if the cutoff just happened.
Well I am now afraid 4.1 won't be a permitted update. I guess my big question is what do I have here with this basic 4.0 phone at this time. A good thing? Do I get to break it and stay at 4.0, attempt to get to 4.1, or something different? I am just finding this an awkward time in the cat mouse game and don't understand what firmware and baseband I should really want my phone to finally rest at via what break.
Well I am so clueless here, like am I missing out? Was 4.1 better for any reason? Is there a satisfying 4.0 break I should try now, or will I be best advised to not update and wait for news of 4.3? I assume the erasing thing is out.
