cant restore to factory settings or upgrade to 4.2

can anyone help with this issue?
do i download 4.2 from a 3rd party website and use tinyunbrella to upload it?
btw im using and iphone 4 4.1 jb/limerain

If you go to 4.2.1 and jailbreak it will be a tethered jailbreak. You may want to stay put for now.

Lol, you sound like me. If you dont need unlock just do a regular update in itunes, then once it is completed use redsn0w 0.9.6b5 to jailbreak it. If you have ever used tiny umbrella then you need to open it, click on advanced, deselect "set hosts to cydia on exit" and then close tiny umbrella before doing the update. Otherwise you will get an error when updating.

thats the thing..when i try to get 4.2 my phone gets stuck in dfu mode...and i cant even go back to factory settings...

You need to do what I said with tiny umbrella. You are probably getting a 1013 error right. If so doing what I said about deselecting that box will fix it and allow you to restore.
