iphone 4 hell

Hello everyone im new to the forum..

Ok ive been trying to sort out this new iphone 4 i got as a present for the last two weeks. Im going to lay out everythng really clearly because its confusing.

I got the iphone and was told it was sim free so when i put my sim in it said put a sim in without a pin code but then it let me put the sim code in.

After i put the code in it said connect to itunes as normal.

when i conneted to itunes it said a message along the lines of " not a supported carrier"

So i finally decided to jailbreak the phone and hacktivated it using limerain then jailbroke with cydia. (i also clicked the make my life easier button)

after all this the phone still had no signal so i called my carrier and they said the sim is perfect.

After all this i found a piece of paper in the box seemingly form a store which read "invalid sim sim not being read" (the store is in a different country so i cant just go down)

this got me thinking the phone has a hardware problem so i went to an iphone "specialist" who said he doesnt think its the hardware the problem was i ddnt jailbreak it with the original sim card being in the phone.

after getting fed upwit it all i decided to call apple and I thought i should erase everything on the phone and bring it back to the way it was out of the box with it not being able to activate it.

little did i know my phone would get bricked.

so i got the ireb v4.0 to get it bakc and it worked howeer now when i connect it to the itunes it says you must recover it which will also upgrade the firmware form my current 4.0.2 to the 4.2.1 os which i dont want to do because the phone may actually be locked to a carrier and if i upgrade it to 4.2.1 i wont be able to jailbreak it.

Please someone give me some help because i have tried so many things including the recboot, the procedure where you downgrade your firmware by changing the host file (and you remove the .txt extension) in the etc file. also i have done everything perfectly but to no avail.

I would love someone to tell me what to do just to get my phone working but if not if someone could tell me how to get the phone back to its original settings without upgrading the firmware that woud be great.

I have worked my socks off trying to get it working and i hope you can tell because a few weeks ago i wouldnt have the faintest idead about jailbreaking or anyting about iphone.

Use Tiny Umbrella to download your shsh blogs.
You will need those info before you can proceed.

my firmware is 4.0.2. i dont know my baseband nd i cannt access the settings on the phone at the moment as its in recovery.
I downloaded tinyumbrella.

Also would like to make it clear all i want is for te phone to work with my carrier jailbroken or unlocked whatever.

Ok, nevermind.
This is what I want you to do :
Make sure you have the latest itunes
Download redsn0w 0.9.6b2 and download the stock 4.1 ipsw
Run Redsn0w and browse to stock 4.1 ipsw
You can download from here :iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From
Check mark only the box that says dfu mode only
Perform this action until it says DFU done.
Now open up itunes and shift + restore to this iphone 4 custom firmware of 4.1 which i will include in your PM box.
This copy is not activated, you will need an official sim to activate.

sorry but what does "This copy is not activated, you will need an official sim to activate" mean copy of what? and official sim does that mean any micro sim? and is this going to be a tetherd jailbreak?

Have you checked your PM box yet. This is a copy of unactivated, custom fw of 4.1 for iphone 4.
Once you have restored to it, you will be at emergency screen. You can leave your official micro sim in there to activate.
Once activated ,you are already jailbroken at 4.1
If your baseband is still at 1.59.00 , you can unlock with Ultrasn0w.
If your baseband is at 02.10.xx, you will get service with official carrier as well .

yes i downloaded everything you said and im in the middle of downloading the custom firmware its only downloading at 5.0 k/b per second as im not a premium member... so a=at this rate it will be done in 33 hr and 20 min

If you have a Mac or Vmware, you can create one yourself a CFW of 4.1 from Pwnage tools 4.1.2, it can be activated or not activated, depending if you are with official carrier or not.
In your case, i assume you are with official carrier, you didn't mention anything about it.

I used this copy that i sent to you to restore my iphone 4.

by official carrier do you mean the carrier that came with the original phone because im not.
the point that i made in the priginal post about finding a sheet of paper in the box sayin that the iphone couldnt read the sim is this likely to be the problem (hardware problem) or do you reckon its locked and i didnt jailbreak it properly?

Your iphone is definitely not factory unlocked, if it is , by putting any gsm sim in will trigger your iphone into Home Screen and get signal right away.
Are you at now emergency screen or recovery mode ?

You mentioned that you have used Limera1n to hactivate, then you should be at Home Screen , you should check your baseband. If it is 1.59 , then you can install ultrasn0w to unlock to get service.

ok right cool. at the moment the apple logo is only showing up with a loading circle on the screen but i can get it into recoery by using ireb. im downloading vmwar it will be done in 5 mins. so then after im going to do as you said and create my own (if its simple enough) as the link you sent me wont be finished for another 20 hr and 10 mins.

I used Vmware to create my CFW and it took me 2 and half hours just to create one.
You want to try and use Snowbreeze 2.1 instead. Download Snowbreeze 2.1 and download the official 4.1 ipsw.
Download ireb 4.1 release 2.
Run ireb 4.1 release 2 and select your device.
Once this DfU mode is performed, you open up itunes ans shift + restore to Snowbreeze_4.1.ipsw which you have just created by Snowbreez 2.1.

hey ehm it said iphone could not be restored unknown error (14) ? but the phone went to the recovery mode..

You must get the dfu part right otherwise it won't work.
If you are with official carrier, just shift + restore to 4.1 ipsw , apple is still signing 4.1

ok i tried that and it the screen had an apple logo ten underneath a load bar it had loaded up to about 60% ten jus went black and an error message came up on itunes reading iphone could not be restored unknown error 1004.
the link you sent me is 66% through with another 3 hrs and 20 mins to go so im going to go to bed now as its 2:40 am here in dublin, ireland and give your custom firmware a try. any more ideas?? appreciate it

You now need to jailbreak with Limera1n or green pois0n and once that is done, install Ultrasn0w through cydia and you should be good to go

right i prevously did that hactivate thing with limerain then it downloaded cydia but my the phone had no signal from my carrier? although i didnt do anything with ultrasnow..

so i shuld jailbreak it with limerain or green poison? then install ultrasnow through cydia?? just double checking mate.

and the last time I jailbroke it i hit the make my life easier button on cydia. i was on 4.0.2 os does that mean i can downgrade from the os im on now which is 4.1 to get back to 4.0.2 or should i not do that??

in fact if you could just tell me what to do it wold be great because im getting so much differnet info.
