It is a not activated custom firmware of 4.1. It doesn't touch your baseband. if you baseband is at 1.59, then it will stay at that baseband.

would you be able to tell me what to do now to get the phone jailbroken and unlocked and working with my carrier? or do you need the original sim for this.
also when i had the 4.0.2 baseband i clicked the make my life easier button. does that mean i can downgrade ? or should i just leave it as is.

When you run redsn0w 0.9.6b5 to put you into DFU mode. You first have to browse to a stock firmware that correspond to your firmware which is 4.0.2. I am not sure Redsn0w will let you browse to 4.0.2.
For my case is different, I browse to 4.1 because i already have 4.1 on my iphone ( factory unlock )
You can try browsing to stock 4.1 eventhough your iphone is 4.0.2 to prepare you into DFU mode.
Then shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.1

OR
If you have 4.1 shsh blogs. You can use Tiny Umbrella to save your 4.1 shsh blogs and start tss server.
Shift + restore to stock 4.1 ipsw .
Once restored your iphone will have IOS 4.1 and bb of 1.59.xx
You will need an official to activate.
Jailbreak with Limerain if you don't have a valid sim.

no mate im on 4.1 i used the custom 1 you sent me last night to uprade to it. no i need to jailbreak it and unlock it so i can use the phone with my carrier. i was just wondering if you could give me some steps.

You should be jailbroken with my custom firmware. Scroll to the next page to see if cydia is there.

Custom firmware : It is a package firmware when restored , it is already jailbroken.

no its not jailbroken its on the connect to itunes screen. on itunes it says the sim card inserted does not appear to be supported

correct me if i am wrong but i think greenpois0n comes with the hactivation option.

If so jailbreak with that and click hacktivte (none official carrier) and once jailbroken you need to install ultrasn0w and you should see you carrier pop up (may need to re-boot)

Let me know if it goes ok or do you need more help

he is already jailbroken because he used a custom firmware to restore so he doesn't need to use limera1n or greenpois0n to jailbreak again, if he doesn't have an official sim as iYeow asked then he will need to restore to 4.1 again with a custom firmware that is activated so he can get past the slid for emergency screen and install ultrasn0w to unlock

Thats what i would go for rather that make a whole new CF, and i believe that greenpois0n has the activation option (not 100% as i used limera1n)

But once activated he just needs to install Ultrasn0w from Cydia and he should be good to go.

Lets hope we can sort it for him

i understood what he was asking but it is never recommended to run one jailbreak on top another jailbreak, bad things can happen
