Am I ready to upgrade to OS 4.21?

Hello guys,

I have an Iphone 3GS and I performed a jailbreak for the first time with jailbreakme.com I also unlocked it with ultrasnow. I have version 4.0.1. Baseband 5.13.04. I used the option "make my life easier" and through Tinyumbrella I know that I have 4.0, 4.01, 4.02, 4.1, 4.2.1 and 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved.

Am I ready to upgrade to OS 4.2 unlocked and untethered after yesterday changes? Can you please give me a brief step by step description? Thanks in advance and congrats for your hard work!

I forgot to mention that I have Windows Vista.

At IOS 4.2.1 , it will be a tethered jailbreak for 3gs unless you have an old bootrom.
I suggest you restore only to custom firmware of 4.1 to get untethered jailbreak.

Thanks, and is it possible to wait where I am until a solution comes out and I can go from where I am now to 4.21, untethered, JB and unlocked?

I can get you to 4.1 if you like, IOS 4.2.1 is such a hassle now.

I will get you to 4.1 and be able to unlock.
This is what you do :
Update itunes to 10
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 and the stock 4.1
Run redsn0w and browse to this stock 4.1
Check only the box, Dfu mode only.
Perform this action until you see a message DFU done.
Now Open up itunes and Shift + restore to custom firmware of 4.1 , the link will be in your PM box.

Once you have restored, your baseband remains the same as what you had before, you can unlock with Ultrasn0w.

Ok. I more or less got it but what would be the advantage of going from 4.0.1 to 4.1?

Yes, additional gamecenter. I wouldn't want to mess with 4.2.1 yet, I will probably stay at 4.1 for a awhile, it is working great, all cydia stuffs works perfect at 4.1.

Bug fixes. 4.2.1 has alot of bugs and moreover 4.3 is on its way.

Ok. Let's see. Suppose Gamecenter is not something that really matters to me and as of now everything works fine with my phone jb, unlocked and untethered so I remain as I am for now.
Will I be able eventually when the dust settles to upgrade to 4.21 or even 4.3, then jb, unlock and be untethered? Thanks for your patience man!

Then you should wait until the final release of 4.3 and untethered jailbreak.

And don't mess with 4.2.1 or you might lose your unlock
