    Default Restoring

Hey guys, I have a problem here.

Right now I'm running iOS 4.1 with a baseband of 5.13.04. I'm unlocked right now. JB'd with pwnagetool.

However I wanna restore back to iOS 4.1. I know apple has stopped signing iOS 4.1.

I have my iOS 4.1 blobs saved
So do I do these steps?

    1. Download tinyumbrella, and start TSS server.

    2. I use redsn0w to enter pwned DFU mode

    3. I shift+restore on iTunes
    _

    Is this correct?

Run redsn0w to pwn DFU mode and shift + restore to the same custom firmware of 4.1 created by Pwnage tools.

You do not need shsh blogs and you don't have to use TU to start TSS server.

How come I don't need SHSH blobs? Didn't apple stop signing ios 4.1? Apple has to verify the firmware, right?

Bump, anyone know why I don't need to start TSS server? I mean apple has stopped signing 4.1

Using custom firmware bypasses shsh blogs. You need shsh blogs only if you want to restore to stock firmware.

What would happen if you start TSS server?

Cuz, during the restore process, apple has to verify it.

That's like saying if I'm on iOS 4.1, and I can restore back to a iOS 3.1.3 without shsh blobs because I have the 3.1.3 custom firmware.

Anyone care to explain it to me in detail? ;\

To make this much easier, please skip to EDIT2 at the bottom of this post. I'll keep the rest for the lolz.

    1) What device are you attempting to restore on, a 3G or a 3GS?

    2) Apple is (as of twenty minutes ago) still signing 4.1/4.2b3 for all phones.

    3) Custom firmware should bypass or satisfy all blob signing restrictions IF AND ONLY IF at least one of the following conditions applies (for a 3GS):

    a) You're already jailbroken with redsn0w, greenpois0n, limera1n, another PwnageTool firmware or a sn0wbreeze firmware.
    b) You're restoring to a custom version of iOS you already have blobs for.

If you're on 4.1 already, I highly recommend jailbreaking via another method FIRST. That should disable sig checks on the device (EDIT: not in iBoot, iBoot isn't touched, my mistake) and shouldn't set off the bootrom for a blob check (as the current untethered jailbreak doesn't alter any files in the main boot chain that cause a sigcheck to fail).

If you're on a 3G, the above is less relevant, as you can always restore to a Pwnage2 exploited firmware from DFU mode at any time and will both always be untethered and will never have to worry about SHSH blob problems (that device does NOT check for blobs in hardware).

If you're on an old-bootrom 3GS or a 3G, you can safely go to 4.2.1 and your resulting jailbreak will be untethered, due to the 24kpwn or Pwnage2 exploits. I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing so, however. :/

EDIT2: Wow, I suck at reading tonight. To answer your original question, start the TSS server if you'd like, go into DFU mode with redsn0w, and restore to your custom-cooked firmware. You shouldn't get stuck on any blobs.

You can use Tss Server to verify your shsh blogs when restoring to stock firmwares.
If you are at stock 4.1 , you can't restore to custom firmware of 3.1.3 but you can restore to stock 3.1.3 fw with the help of saved 3.1.3 shsh blogs.
If you have used custom firmware at 4.1, yes, you can restore to custom firmware of 3.1.3.

So if you're using a custom firmware (no matter what version). you can always downgrade to another custom firmware without blobs?

Yes, but depends on what exploits you are using. Like mine, I am using the iboot exploit at fw 3.1.2 on my 3gs, Limera1n and GreenPoison are using the bootrom exploit from Geohot.

Does it have to be the same exploit in order to downgrade?

Double Post: Also what will happen if I do start TSS server using a custom firmware?

You only use Tss Server to verify shsh blogs if you are restoring to Stock firmware.
In this case, you are using Custom firmware, so you don't need any verification and you don't use Tss Server.

To restore back to custom fw of 4.1. You do the same thing, put your iphone into dfu mode thought the help of Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 and shift + restore to cfw of 4.1 created by Pwnage tools of 4.1.2
